Looking more and more like DeBord will be the new OC

Is this the same "inside chatter" that had Tressel interviewing? Or is it the same "inside chatter" that had Bajakian going to CMU and taking Azzani with him? I am supposed to believe that CBJ hired Debord and leaked it to the goofball that started this thread but has yet to tell a single recruit or media outlet?

How does this guy fit with Butch's philosophy on offense? I thought Butch was fully committed to the spread and a dual threat QB? Does this guy have any history at all of coaching such a system? This seems more like lazy reporting based on an old connection between the two men.

CBJ flew DeBord in yesterday-- less than 48 hours after the position was officially open-- and there is insider chatter that they have a deal less than 24 hours later. This is warp speed.

A couple of points that might be worth considering on this.

First, when you start interviewing... someone has to be first. Seldom is first also last.

Second, do you think Jones et al just found out Bajakian was leaving on the day it became public?

No, no he doesn't. He is Butch's buddy though and if hired, apparently that will be enough

exactly

Given I have seen almost as many oc suggestions as there are posters, it will be an unhappy volnation meltdown no matter the choice. Not very familiar with this Debord person so would never recommend or suggest him but......

I spend every week, during season, reading posts from people who have never coached a day in their lives, tell how the offense should be run and what plays should be called.

And now, many of the same posters saying this guy is a no go because he hasn't coached in 2 years. At least pick a side. If not coaching for 2 years makes you unqualified, then to never have coached qualifies you to sthu pretty much all the time.

Where is this inside chatter that u speak of coming from? Other than inside of course

With that logic, Fulmer should be our hire. Won a national championship and used to be great with the Oline.

Not bald though :)

I'm not lobbying for any particular hire; I was simply responding to a "another bald white guy" comment.

Jones was actually Debord's OC at CMU. Unfortunately, it wasn't a particularly successful union. They only won 7 games in the two years Jones was OC for him.

By the way, the guy starting this thread and countless others is not an "insider". He happens to know a few players and reports every rumor he hears as fact, nothing more. I would venture to guess that there are quite a few on this board who know current or past players and never say a word.

No it was not, which makes this hire even less likely imo. Now Debord may be an offensive genius but CBJ is no fool.

This reminds me of that time when we oh so thought we were going to a particular bowl game because of some "leaked" info, only to find out we were going to an even better bowl game.

Gotta trust those insiders...

Yep. Quite a few of them. But I never pester them with questions about recruiting. If they freely share something with me, I still don't share it because it's unsubstantiated rumors. I did know the Gruden rumors were bs early on though.

True, first is seldom last. And it shouldn't be here.

CBJ said the opportunity arose suddenly and he found out the day before. Jake's goal was to return to the NFL, so while a move was not unexpected, the timing was not anticipated.

Thanks. I had not seen/heard that.

Good point. I was a little surprised after seeing this rumor thread last night, to find it being discussed today as if the hire had been made.

Yeah I don't believe that for one second. He has been with Jones for far too long to just suddenly up and leave without some warning. Now, he may have made up his mind at the last minute but you would have to believe there was plenty of warning.

The biggest reason I'm chuckling while perusing all you "experts" upping the nausea scale by decrying BUTch's ominous imminent professional implosion; one that would be caused by hiring some supposed sure-fire loser, even with my limited experience playing football (Jr. high and High school...like millions of other fans), is...this is BUTch's program and he won't lay a hang nail on any of your misinformed freakouts. Doug Matthews patiently laid out (to the press) that, due to an inadequate OC (not the HC), last year's offense couldn't make short yardage when needed (red zone scoring and 3rd and 4th down big plays, as in couldn't produce power surges), didn't utilize the right talent in key positions (Worley over Dobbs, poor WR matchups, etc.), he pointed out questionable OL play while still recognizing the reality of a dearth of talent there, and, of course, most dubious play calling, time after time. The much respected, well traveled coach then explained that frivolously picking up an OC who's philosophies wouldn't fit the athletes and schemes of that particular system (and fit it well), regardless of their prominence to the sports public, would only disrupt the finite setup that's already in place. For you Forrests: This'll mess up Momma's cake mix. Personally, I'm going to enjoy this off-season as well as possible and figure the experts (not any of US)...BUTch et al, will handle this hire in a way that best suits the team's future, and not to garner the approval of VNers. I know, I know. I can hear y'all crying "But I'm just being realistic!" Have Momma fix you a cup of hot chocolate, Forrest(s)...it's ugly outside.

Awesome! :clapping: You do realize you're posting in the Negavol Shark Feeding Frenzy thread tho? :ermm:
