One of the biggest advantages of LNS is also a disadvantage. The fans are right on top of the field so the players can hear everything. Thus, they hear and feed off the cheers and the roars. Unfortunately, they also hear the negative crap and personal attacks that they shouldn't be hearing from a home crowd. These aren’t professional athletes and 90% of baseball players at TN don’t receive any material NIL money. Most graduate with a lot of debt.
Mental health is a huge problem with athletes along with the huge expectations and pressure that comes along with it. Some courageous athletes have publically stated their challenges with mental health. See Evan Russell, Jared Dickey, and Zach Joyce to name a few VFLs who‘ve bravely encouraged others to get help and treatment.
Some receive death threats via social media after poor performances. What the dumb arse so called “fans“/criminals don’t bother to think about is these are actual young men with families who are trying to navigate college, school work, being away from home, money problems, etc. Instead of dragging them down, fans should build them up! Let’s hope the hornets nest returns and the BaseVols hear how much they are appreciated this weekend against Auburn! GBO!
Yes sir. Well said—-I just wish more fans understood this…. Most of the Vol fans are great, civil, and treat the players and their families with respect. However, the vocal minority who go off the rails, make it personal, take cheap shots at players, and generally embarrass themselves should be held accountable. There is a code of conduct for fans, and those who can’t abide by them, need to be ejected and asked to hit the fan portal!Well said.
People try to minimize it or act as if the team or Vitello should just let it roll off their backs. I absolutely disagree. It simply shouldn't happen. Have an opinion all you want, but keep it to yourself if you can't be civil.
And look at what family members are saying. I've seen several parents, siblings, etc say how absolutely nasty it is at times. Social media, twitter especially, is an absolute sewer but its even worse when its in your own dang building.
And before someone gripes about NIL, a talent fee, or anything else...Blake Burke's mom pointed out he made $50K last year. One of the biggest names on the team made about $20 bucks an hour. A lot of guys don't even make half that. If you wouldn't go yell at some dude changing brakes or stocking a shelf, then don't do it to them either.
No offense to Basilio, but he's a bandwagon rider. When things are going good, all he does is blow smoke up people's asses. When they aren't going good, he does the opposite. I never have and never will take the things he says seriously.Tony Basilio talking about this thread/topic right now.. one of his main topics today and will take calls soon. Tune in ASAP! He's saying what they've done to take away the magic and monetize it and make the stadium more corporate is unacceptable. And jamming the students into that little area so far away from the action is awful..And he's right. Our stadium had magic!
Society in general. Our foundational pillars have slowly but surely been destroyed. The golden rule is nearing extinction. You remove God and his word and the individual thinks he/she gets to decide what's right or wrong...or even if the distinction exists. We were told these times would come...and worse. We are somewhat cloistered in the wholesome confines of the forum. The culture at large seems to be quite volatile at the moment.
AGREED. 2 years ago in Hoover I sat beside at Tennessee "fan" who was obnoxious & belligerent to the opponent (at keast he wasn't vulgar or obscene). After a few innings, when he didn't get an "Atta Boy" from me, he left for another seat. I was embarassed to sit by the guy & was relieved when he left. There IS a fine line between being 'competitive' & being a JERK/University of Tennessee and SEC Fan Code of Conduct
In the spirit of sportsmanship, fans shall:
• Conduct themselves in a manner that represents UT, the Southeastern Conference and the
NCAA with honor, dignity and respect.
• Demonstrate qualities of civility and sportsmanship at all times.
• Not use vulgar, abusive, racist, sexist, demeaning, or intimidating language at any time.
• Support the players, coaches and officials in a positive manner.
• Treat the visiting team, coaches and fans with courtesy and respect at all times.
• Not engage in cheers that are vulgar, crass or demeaning.
• Refrain from throwing objects onto the playing surface for any reason.
• Not become inebriated or belligerent.
• Refrain from entering playing and team areas at any time, including the game.
• Be a positive role model for those around you by treating others with courtesy and
respect!
Basilio tells it how it is. And this topic wasn't a topic made up by Basilio either, he heard about this and they talked thru it. And he was spot on.No offense to Basilio, but he's a bandwagon rider. When things are going good, all he does is blow smoke up people's asses. When they aren't going good, he does the opposite. I never have and never will take the things he says seriously.

We're 4 hours away in southern middle TN. Going to a football game is $1000+ for 4 if we stay the night. We rarely do that; instead turn and burn. It's a very LONG day and/or into the next day. (Arriving home Sun at 2 or 3 am for night games).I live 3 hours away in Virginia, had a lifelong friend text me asking me last Friday if I had or knew of 4 tickets for the UK game Friday night. He has 2 kids both in middle school that love the Vols. They've been wanting to go but can't during a weeknight due to school and his job. He's never used this board so all he saw was Ticketmaster and StubHub. 600$ plus some fees for 4 tickets is what he was gonna have to pay just for TICKETS... That doesn't include gas, food and hotel, and whatever UT gear the kids may want. That's for a 1 day/night of baseball. Add that up and you've just priced an entire family who wanted to be here out, who just can't justify paying that craziness.
Interesting….so asking questions is ripping the fan base? Ha. Perhaps you should give the constant negativity and criticism of an elite baseball program a rest! Maybe get out of the ATL and try going to a game for once, and then get back to me! It might clear your mind getting out of the smog and congestion in the ATL. Lol.Ripping the fan base. Fan police always around.
Give it a rest.
Idk know what further work is planned. But I thought the remark pertinent.“The new Lindsey-Nelson layout will be a hornets nest and the fans will be closer to the field than any other ballpark in college baseball. This work will be complete by 2026.”
