LNS: Is the Hornet’s Nest Gone?

No I'm not wrong. You missed the point. I'm talking about UT, not posters giving away seats. This was a Tuesday game UT asking those prices that's ridiculous. Alot of fans don't use this board so they don't see the generosity of you and others here. All they see is what UT charges. That same single seat for SEC games UT wants 224$ plus whatever fee. That's absurd. You wanna grow this beautiful game, gets kids into the game and families, well this is 100'% not how you do it
I don’t like the high prices, but they are a direct result of winning big.

Look man, I do good to sneak in some seeds or peanuts and keep my weekly expenditures low.

You bring those out and I'll have to take out a 2nd mortgage. I will NEVER pass up helmet ice cream.
Yea! Danny could get us hooked on that ice cream and not need any more price increases.

That's Danny. Winning drives up prices I get that. But that's gouging at this point. That's above alot of football prices. NFL prices. You can take a family of 4 to MLB for that

I'm interested to know if the Smokies being back in town shifts their thinking a little. I realize they aren't fishing in the exact same ponds and the seasons don't totally overlap...

But the Smokies have infinitely more options for seating, birthday parties, group and corporate outings, or even just a night out with a family or small group of friends at a decent price. UT has almost none of that- everything has shifted to 'premium'. It can be tough for someone to just decide to go and people eventually quit trying.

I'm just thinking out loud so I'm not totally sure about any of it, but its something that makes me wonder now that there's another place to spend that money...

I live 3 hours away in Virginia, had a lifelong friend text me asking me last Friday if I had or knew of 4 tickets for the UK game Friday night. He has 2 kids both in middle school that love the Vols. They've been wanting to go but can't during a weeknight due to school and his job. He's never used this board so all he saw was Ticketmaster and StubHub. 600$ plus some fees for 4 tickets is what he was gonna have to pay just for TICKETS... That doesn't include gas, food and hotel, and whatever UT gear the kids may want. That's for a 1 day/night of baseball. Add that up and you've just priced an entire family who wanted to be here out, who just can't justify paying that craziness.

Well, I was looking for some family and saw those prices listed. Those folks are just hoping people will be stupid and pay those prices, but I saw some for $35-55 that were actual seats. Sometimes it’s the day of that you can find those.

Did you suggest he drop a note on the ticket board? 🧐

I think at one point I paid something like $100-125 for a season ticket. My wallet misses those days. I also miss all the room to stretch out at LNS because of low attendance no matter the opponent.

OTOH, I don’t miss worrying about Tennessee not making it to Hoover, and I liked going with a couple of friends and one of my kids to Omaha last year.

There are things to be grateful for 🙂

Yeah he texted me on Monday asking for Friday, he had to plan, and his wife had to swap her shift at work so he needed to plan ahead.

From pictures friends have shown me, Tennessee is out drawing the Smokies. Of course, things can change.

I’m not saying they are free, but single game Smokies tickets are available for under $30.

It also looks like Smokies season tickets are still available.

Yeah, I remember when MVP tickets were $150 for the season. Unfortunately, work prevented me from attending regularly so I accumulated desk drawers full of unused tickets. However, I am able to go to games, both home and away, on my own terms now, and it is a blessing.

So the tickets you were showing, they are from Tennessee or they are fans asking that amount? I did not think the university was still selling any tickets. Fans with season tickets are going to get what they can for the tickets they have and not using. I’ve actually sold some of mine and don’t feel bad because I give away 95% of what I don’t use. I’ve had a lot of people tell me that ticket prices are outrageous and on and on and on. My answer is then you should’ve bought them and been a season ticket holder fan when tickets were cheap because now you would have the opportunities to buy them. I regret that I didn’t buy all eight tickets that they offered me in 2020 or the MVP seats But what we have is a lot of bandwagon fans who now that they are doing good only want to go to the really good games when the weather is warm and we’re playing a top five team, but they wanna pay the prices for when the team was bad. It really goes back to supply and demand. What drives our free market system

Sure but our tickets are exponentially more expensive than literally anyone else’s. Texas, LSU, Miss St. they’re all far cheaper than ours.

There’s some fair here. I sat down with the wife and kid, think it was after hosting the first time, definitely before any renovation work had started.

“It’s now or never.” “Here’s what is required if you decide to bail on a midweek because it’s cold, how many games can we realistically make or are we just buying season tickets so we can be in line for regionals?”

I think this was about the transition from physical tix to all digital, in other words I wasn’t imaging how easy transfers would be.

Any way…I was gonna end up going by myself and have to deal with spares…we decided against it as college is coming soon.

All that to say…It’s on TV! You can watch every game! It was not that long ago, that one could not, and going to the game was a real treat. I will be the first to admit you can’t applaud the renovation while complaining about ticket prices.

Beat LSU!

GBO!!!

Apparently UT is selling tickets at “market pricing“ for almost every home game. Some are what goes unclaimed in LF for the visitor’s but many are in prime sections as well.

EDIT: The seats that UT is selling are designated as “Standard Admission” and are displayed in blue. These seats are different than the Reseller Seats which are displayed in red. OJJs examples were standard admission seats priced at $69 and $109. These were likely priced using TMs “dynamic pricing” in which algorithms are used to set pricing. UT can also set the pric8ng or use dynamic pricing with a floor or minimum price per section.

Correct. These are not reseller seats. And they are 224$ for SEC games. Tuesday games 104$.

I live 3 hours away and work Monday thru Friday. So mostly I can't attend a Tues night game. Sometimes I travel thru Knoxville Midweek but not often. Same as most here in southwest VA so we try to come on weekends if possible. And paying those prices are just not justifiable.

It will be very easy to do a heel turn on Danny White the minute we're not winning in something. Baseball seems the most stable so it'll probably be one of the other sports.

As far as losing the "hornets nest" enviroment, I think it's absolutly the case. However, I do think some of it is natural. 2021 will probably never be topped. It had everything lining up. Everyone was desperate to be in an enviroment like that after dealing with covid. It was our first really good team in, what, 16 years? You can't replicate the climb. I would kind of relate it to beating Alabama in 2022. Years of desire went into making that crowd so crazy. I don't care if we win five national titles or build a 16000 seat stadium, it won't be able to top Gilbert's HR for an isolated electric moment. I didn't have expectations at that point, only excitement to be winning again.
