Linebackers lowkey good

That wasn't my point. My point was he is unproven
Unfortunately our entire team is fairly unproven. Our OL and DL both have guys that have played, but not at an elite level.
RB has lots of potential and I think will be one of the strengths of the offense. I love Small, Evans and Wright as a RB combo. But none of them have proven anything at the SEC level.
WR Velus and Hyatt are somewhat proven. Payton and Tillman have played SEC ball.
None of the QB's have proven much of anything in the SEC.
ILB I think Mitchell will be good and Banks has some experience. OLB we have almost no SEC experience.
Safety has some experience with Flowers and McCollough, but backups have no experience.
Corner Alontae has plenty of experience and I like the potential of the portal guys, but not much experience.
Special teams may be important for this this team as we have a punter, placekicker and kick returner who have proven to be very good. Curious who will return punts.

Not much proven SEC talent across the board.

The thread was about linebackers but yes I agree

They couldn’t cover last year, will this year be different?
You guess
This year will be different. BJM has been a LB coach for a long time. Nied? Nope.
Mohan and Willis and Beasley as well as Mitchell will be better in coverage than HT or Crouch. They were decent to good run stoppers, not very good, or even bad in coverage.

There are a slew of reasons why Tennessee will have better LBing.

This is just hopium man. HT was a boss. Mitchell seems like a solid starter who is a bit one dimensional in his playstyle. Definitely a good pickup, but let's face facts: our defense is likely going to be terrible this year. We lost more talent this year than we have in recent memory... maybe for any team. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the combination with our new offensive style results in 30+ ppg being given up.
...and how is giving up 30+ points this year any different from last year? For JP to be a defensive Guru, the defense last year was pure garbage, couldn't even cover slant routes. Our LB's were a liability! Hopefully this year our offense will avg. more than 21pts a game and maybe keep in step with the opponent.

I hope we get to see several of our LBs play in that first game. Some of them are green at this point, and just need game reps.

So we need to stop comparing to last year. There was a different offense supporting it. You need to think big 12 football. Those defenses get points put up in them because the offense of those teams score a lot of points( okstate, Baylor, OU) the defense can be good but it will always have points scored in it. So when comparing to last years team. This current defense will give up more points and yards

We will certainly give up yardage and points and CJH knows and expects this. What Heuple wants from the D is turnovers. Think 10 possessions resulting in 3 TD's, 3 FG's, 2 punts, and 2 turnovers. Hold 'em to 30-35 and set the O up in a short field 2-3 times and we'll win a few more ball games than we have been. JMHO

Looks like Bama is feeling good about their linebackers as well...

BamaInsider - Alabama appears to have found its quarterback on defense

@bamawriter i told you.

Anybody who understands the importance of communication on defense could see this coming..And he has the talent to add to that already talented group.

Still not even worried. We literally replaced him with the best possible option.
Juwan Mitchell is already starting to have our defense playing better.
