Banks has a lot to prove as a coach. The co-DC thing. It wasn’t that long where we were regretting hiring a PSU DC. Remember the Shoop debacle. That guy is now an “analyst.”

David Reeves would have been a home run hire, but his melanin content DQ’d from consideration. It’s a shame that we have to limit our search due to racial quotas, but UT had no choice since they hired a cracker and he brought his cracker offensive staff with him.

As I was telling Eastnknox865, Garland has carved out a role on this defense. Really athletic dude that is getting better at LB with every rep. BJM said today that he will be a big factor for our defense this year. And I saw this happening as far back as spring. Because he was the best defender out there.

Now you throw in Jeremy Banks who has experience and Morvin Joseph that also super talented and you can use these guys and their talents situationally.

Willis now has time to sit and learn as a frosh along with Mohan...
Because Page and Beasley have played as well and are factors.

Man I hope so. All I keep hearing is how we’ll be dreadful on defense. Let’s hope that we can surprise a few people this year.

Mitchell gets of blocks and makes tackles and he actually had pass break ups! Much better in coverage than Henry T. Heś actually just a better LB period. Every down LB. He can play run and pass. Not sure where youŕe getting this one-dimensional stuff from. HT had more passes broken up last year than Mitchell. More games played though. Not sure its some huge upgrade.

What ¨facts¨ ??? Why are they going to be terrible?
LB) We lost a bad Crouch and an a good Henry T who lost too much weight.
We gained Mitchell and still have Banks and Garland who is out playing him. (EVEN)
Bennett and Johnson played a different style of OLB. Still losing 8 sacks between them isnt great but itś not paralyzing either. (TBD) This is part of what scares me. We lost most of our sack production from last year and other than Byron Young, I'm not seeing where we are adding much pass rush. Just hoping having CRG will improve that area but........he can only work with what he has.

CB) We lost Bryce Thompson- very good CB. But we have a very much improved Burrell along with two other transfers and very talented freshman in Rucker. (IMPROVED) Hopefully but remains to be seen. More overall talent anyway.
S) Losing Key Lawrence wasnt good, but he wasnt even a starter. Still have Slaughter who beat him out and we added Charles ( EVEN) Lawrence had more upside than anything we currently have, but it was certainly unproven.

DL) We added Rodney Garner- maybe the best DLine coach in college. And we cut some dead weight with a bunch of experience returning (IMPROVED++++) Coaching improved for sure. Talent not so much. I am excited to see Terry getting coached by CRG. he has a lot of upside. I think he will eventually be a star here.

So no, I dont see a talent deficiency. Itś not Hopium.
I see a more balanced defense that will have an offense to help keep them in every game.

Offensive points will hopefully keep us in games, but this offense goes sooo fast that I am afraid the defense will be out on the field a lot. Whether we score or go three and out, the defense will not get much rest because of how fast we go, and the depth or lack thereof will matter.

Hopefully having a competent offense that doesn’t instinctively go 3 and out drive after drive will help the D stay fresh. I still maintain that we had a good defense last year, it was made to look worse than it is by the **** show around it

I like the optimism. We were thin last year there. Wish Twoo-Twoo would come back from Bama to help lead us to modern day victory lol.

Good is relative. Maybe everyone on our defense sucked (personally, I don't believe that), but losing the best out of a sucky lineup still hurts. We lost our best player at every level (DJ, HT, and BT). And that's not counting the other players that were in our 2 deep, including Middleton who was one of the better run stuffers in the SEC. Those losses are going to hurt. Combine them with an unproven defensive coaching staff (imo), a new scheme, and an offense that will put more pressure on them.... not a recipe for success in year 1.

Marvin Butler had much better productivity than Middleton. And we still have Solomon, Bumphis, Garland, Simmons and 2 year guys like Thomas and Bailey.

Adding athletes like Eason and Barron, Young directly on the line of scrimmage changes how the defense can attack.
That extra defender.

And the stuff we ran last year, won't be that dissimilar to what we run this year.

The main thing is, we will have an offense that can score and will allow our defense to get creative to cause pressure and make plays.

We have a veteran secondary bolstered by guys like Turnage and Hadden. And a veteran DL.

Also look for guys like Harrison, Joseph, McDonald, Mitchell and Banks to blitz a lot.
They all have that skillset and can bring pressure easier with a 4 man front.

Facts. That’s one thing that’s rarely taken into account on these forums. Just because the defense looks good doesn’t mean that the the offense isn’t horrid and vice versa.

Afraid of this too. Let’s hope this staff knows how to make half-time adjustments.

That's a huge challenge. Only done that once the last decade. Would be a huge accomplishment.
