Lindsey Nelson Stadium,

I am doing very well! I can't remember what my last update was for you guys. I'm still riding high from my last scan when they said I would have a consultation with the surgeon in January. At the beginning of treatment they said "less than 1% chance I ever qualify for surgery". The chemo has caused neuropathy in my feet so I'm a little slow but still getting around. Both of my kids are in for the holidays had undoubtedly helped my mood too.

I'm glad you asked so it gives me a chance to tell everyone on here that has prayed for me how much it has meant and that they are being answered. I am very grateful. God is good. Merry Christmas to all of you!!
That is great news, Brian. It sounds like you’re on a great trajectory and that Christmas will be special for you and your kids. Continued prayers for you and your family, and hope to see you in a couple of months.

Thank you for the smile you put on my face!

Merry Christmas!

Fantastic news! Just outstanding! May God continue to bless and heal you! See you at LNS!

Drove by LNS today. Going to be interesting to see what they get done in a little over a month. It’s still a hot mess around the perimeter.
I went by Saturday morning.

Looks completely stupid wedged in there. It’s literally sitting on top of fraternity houses. My daughter, who was home for Christmas, said ‘what the hell?”

I disagree.

I liked when the old baseball stadiums were wedged into city neighborhoods. This will have the same feel, except for the modern looking glass and steel at the top..

I think the fraternity houses's days are numbered. Those houses are aging out. Especially when you consider how young men typically use living space, and the fraternities are having trouble keeping their noses clean and are getting suspended or expelled form campus.

I suspect UT will sooner rather than later and build a fraternity park that more closely resembles the new sorority area on a tighter parcel of land instead of letting them sprawl along for blocks like an old shopping plaza. I would bet they would use only the western end of current fraternity park area and build a handful of 3-4 story houses. The current fraternities on the east end will be demolished and the will build replacement structures closer to Volunteer Boulevard with less parking. This will provide a large buffer for LNS.

But - again, I like the current set up. It's different and make LNS feel like part of campus rather than standing alone out the outskirts of campus.

I wonder if UT would build an indoor track facility on the eastern end of Fraternity Park? They need one.

Well said, Its an unusual vibe that kinda suits it. And you're right, the frat houses days are numbered, at least in their current configuration.

As desperate as they are for building space all over campus (and they are desperate), they'll work out something financially and do exactly what you said to free up some of that critical space.

Just where are they going to build this? Are they going to build an Island in the river?

What would REALLY make the LNS renovation take that next step to being outstanding would be to replace that archaic and old jumbotron board and replace it with a stater of the art screen that would blow away that excuse of a board they currently have mounted over the outfield wall. That fossil is an embarrassment and needs replaced or this renovation will be coming up short.

You do realize the board is new?

Build what? A reconfigured Frat park?

He answered your question. Look at the map, you can put them all on the western end of the current area and open up space.

As they currently sit, it's a ridiculously inefficient use of the land compared to the rest of campus.

While I’ll certainly agree that fraternity park is tired looking, I haven’t seen this mentioned anywhere and having green spaces isn’t “inefficient.

Building a fraternity "park" in square instead of like a current strip mall aesthetic.

The sorority houses are taller than the fraternity houses and sit in a small triangle surrounded on all three sides my major roadways and not actually on or adjoining campus. The same could easily be copied for the rowdy guys.

Torchbearer Hall being built at the corner of Volunteer and Lake Loudon was originally planned to be build AFTER a large dorm past the right field wall. The changed timeline and built this one first likely because of the stadium construction. I suspect the rightfield dorm (Rightfield Hall would be a great name!) is coming in the next 5-10 years with some frats are being demolished for this. Maybe almost all of them to go. They could then build the "new" fraternity park on the west end of the current footprint and the new dorm at almost the same time.

Is/has Tennessee considered acquiring additional land and/or buildings for a North/South campus type of arrangement. I would think despite the enrollment cliff, UT will still grow because the state population is increasing.North Carolina State did that a while back with what they call the Centennial campus. Villanova just took over Cabrini College and it will become part of VU. North Carolina is also starting a North campus.

Makes plenty sense to me.

Right Field Hall is an all time name for sure.

I don't think so.

I think they had plans for the Cherokee Campus for something like that but the rich folk across the river pitched a hissy fit as they didn't want their view ruined and all that noise 200-300 yards away. I think the city will want to control much of the development across the river where the pedestrian bridge is going. UT will have some places there but it will be smaller in scale.

That being said, if the railyard ever went away, UT would have the bulldozers in the space within 2-1/2 hours. Same with the KUB facilities adjacent to ag campus.

Green spaces aren't inefficient, and UT would do well to keep them.

That said, the current Frat Park and Fiji island are exactly that. Low density houses (compared to more recent builds), surface parking all over the place... Hell, Fiji Island is mostly gravel/mud and a few trees. Calling it greenspace is very generous.

Sense? If the frats are going, then cramming in this remodel makes even less sense long term.
Think about it this way.

They managed to expand and improve facilities without expanding the footprint. When they do get more room, they could do some fairly cool things with plazas and possible right field seating.

I would like to see the current aluminum porches replaced with a more permanent tiered tower structure with porches hanging off the tower. with restrooms, elevators/escalators, and concessions included in the tower. They could even build the tower on top of parking garage for porch owners.

Tennessee is going to have the most unique stadium in the SEC and it's nearly perfect for an urban campus without large tracts of open land to build on.
