Les Miles thread (merged)

True on this.

LSU-SIU who you like as a top 5 options that can be had?

Not sure there are five options that most fans are going to like to be honest. Very similar situation as LSU last year, but probably worse for two reasons.... 1.) LSU didn't need to compete with the amount of schools looking for a head coach 2.) LSU was happy with half its coaching staff not named Miles or Cameron.

Even consider #1, its very hard to move coaches in the power conferences as LSU was experienced last year.

If it was me, I would piecemeal the process similar to LSU... although the Vols will need a whole new staff.

- Frost or similar (as head coach)
- Pelini (defensive coordinator)
- Miles (head recruiter/associate head coach)

Probably could do this for a similar total salary as Butch. This would provide support for Frost or a younger coach, and also provide an option if Frost left in a year or two.

I am not saying these names should be the ones either, more like the idea.

I know that's where I'm at. Looking at the coaches that Tennessee could realistically get. It's a very short list and none of the names are breakout the fireworks hire. Your right power 5 coaches now don't move. The money is too big now.

Miles, Schiano, Norvell, Taggart, Frost, Kiffin are the only realistic options that have been HC's and have had some level of success.

And all have issues to point out. Like most coaches though. If not one of these guys it will be a lifetime coordinator

1707 has to be kin to Les Miles. He's been all over this board campaigning for him. Les Miles is a great coach whose time has passed!!

And at his age, you get 5 to 7 seasons with a proven SEC West winner while you have ample time to groom the next coordinator to take his place and dominate the SEC for another decade. It lets you prepare the succession carefully and delinerately for the next time instead of buying a nonrefundable ticket on the coaching carousel.

And one of the knocks I KEEP hearing against Miles is in regards to QB recruitment. You do realize that, unlike at LSU, here at UT, he has Peyton Manning calling and talking to young HS quarterbacks cinsidering UT.

LSU has a regional problem at qb. HS in that area put great athletes at qb. Run for big yards and just throw slants & 9 routes for tds and big yards. Always ranked high. Not good qbs though.

That's a problem even Saban had there

Because it's factual and truthful. And he would be a great fit, and a very good coach here. But, the fantasy coaches list overshadow rhyme and reason. granted there is a long list of capable coaches that can be presented. Few are in the cards, interested, or the right fit.

How is it factual and truthful? He'd be a horrendous fit here. His offenses were PATHETIC! BAD BAD BAD fit.

His qb play was bad.... same as under Saban

It's a devopmental regional thing on the style of football played in that region.

You get really high start rated qbs that can't read a defense but are great athletes.

These are where Miles's teams have finished in total offense in the SEC since coming to LSU. Please explain how any of that is pathetic.

In regards to his QB recruitment. 3 QB's under Miles were drafted.

Good job, 👏 he was in top 3 his 1st 3 years there, look at the rest of that. 11, 11, 4, 10, 7, 10, 7 so his last 7 years there he had one outlier of 4th. And that's in the SEC, not nationally. So pathetic.

Well looking like Mullen liking Texas A&M. Kelly UCLA or Florida, Gruden forget it move on from him he is not coming here. Frost to Nebraska. I don't know who we will end up with but right now Miles looks a lot better than some on the list I have heard.

His offenses were so pathetic, in fact, from 2005-15, LSU was the winningest program in the SEC. With a NC and another SEC title. Only 2 of those seasons were without Saban at Bama. And he beat him 1/3 of the time. Absolutely pathetic.

Statistically speaking, of course (don't be intimidated), that translates to being in the top half of the SEC 7 of 11 years. Top quarter 4 of 11. I'd say that's not pathetic.

11 seasons (full): 5 top 10 AP rankings, an additional 2 in top 15. 9 in total top 20. Only 2 unranked. Pathetic!

Defense is what won him all those games, he had a PATHETIC offense that I don't want any part of. #DefenseWinsChampionships

There's an old saying...We don't take pictures, we just write down the score.

Give me a W with D over a L with a pretty O any day of the week.
