Les Miles thread (merged)

I remember why Les Miles was fired. He was fired for: (11seasons):

2 National Championships
.770 winning percentage at LSU
5 Coach of the Year awards at LSU
A 7-4 Bowl record at LSU (Never missed post season)
5 top 10 rankings (7 top 15)
Won 1/3 of games against Nick Saban. (3-6)
In the 6 seasons prior to being fired for starting 2-2 his records were 11-2, 13-1, 10-3, 10-3, 8-5, 9-3.

He did all this with his "antiquated" offense and stubborness, no elite QB, lack of player development, gobs of NFL draftees, and old fashion tough guys playing smash mouth football.

He's not qualified. Doesn't meet VN standards for a splash hire.

LSU will miss him in the long run.

And so will we if we are too dumb to interview and hire.

Wow, Miles won 2 NCs?
Or, he didn't.

He is a solid coach for sure. He has had some clock management issues but a lot of coaches have. Could recruit the south very well just like he did at LSU. I would be fine with him if we miss on a couple other guys. Call me crazy but I'm really big on Scott Frost. I'd throw the kitchen sink at him honestly, as far as the up and comers he is the one I would want.

If Les could get some VFLs on the staff I think most people would be pretty excited about that. Bring Tee in as OC/AHC and set us up for the long term.

Problem is the most lasting memory of Les most of us have here is him not beating Saban for, what, 5 years in a row? Idk about you but I want to beat Bama and while they still have Saban!

So, the only coach that can claim a 33% success rate against Saban is unqualified cause he lost 5 straight. To our how many? What's the success rate against Saban of anyone we are considering? Or might even have a deal with already? If that is a primary expectation, to beat Saban somewhat frequent, he's the only one in the country that did it 1/3 of the time.

Scott Frost is going to win somebody a National Championship.

The man is 64 years old.

Why does he being 64 have anything to do with it. His resume is his legacy. His accomplishments whether you like him or not. I don't care if he 94 and in a wheel chair if could getTN back into the National picture I'm all for it.
He's a good coach that does not get the credit he has earned.

That’s the only negative. Miles can coach circles around 90% of the stiffs mentioned on these coaching threads.

You might be right... but that’s one hell of a negative for a program searching for stability. Only way it could happen is to have him walk in with a coach in waiting, and that hasn’t worked in most places. He’s a complete nonstarter as a candidate.

And will still out coach any likely hire we end up with.

Saban is 66. And still winning. Point?

I wouldn't want either one as the new Vols coach.

Here today, gone...too soon. Especially if they brought a couple years success then retired. Then we ride the carosel once again.

tons of negative recruiting and in 3-4 years, we're guaranteed firing up another coaching search and I'm modding more Gruden threads. None of us need that.

I like Les, but he should just collect his buyout and have a good time.

I love when people throw out guarantees. Usually those people are posting on Forums and not decision making boosters in the program. 😂😂😂😂

Miles benefited from having the job that's arguably the easiest one there is to load the roster with NFL talent.

He underachieved. He is a quirky, stubborn, relic. He has many of the same flaws Butch Jones has.

LSU fired him for about the same reasons UT fired Fulmer. No major program has tried to hire Miles or Fulmer. Let that sink in.

The other SEC coaches would love for UT to hire him.

Same people saying it’s the easiest job in the country due to the resources and talent surplus are same one’s that throw out the argument of Mullen over achieving at a school with zero resources and talent.....

What giveS?

What if Mullen had been hired by LSU instead of Orgeron?
