Legend Bey Requested Release

Unless new info has surfaced, sounds like his mother (and perhaps brother) forced him here. If that's the case, he's not at fault - nor "toxic" - and I question why Heupel even signed him. Rescinding the offer would have side-stepped this.
AP said he talked to him on the phone after signing and he was talking about being excited to be at Tennessee and never mentioned anything negative. Ohio St tampered and it is the new landscape until somebody sues the heck out of a school.

Never waste an opportunity to be blindly indignant, eh?

Bey’s release request confirms what we already knew; he didn’t want to be at UT to begin with. Now, if everyone in media was reporting that, how is it possible that Heupel didn’t know? And why would you want to go ahead and sign the guy knowing that?

When considered, mine is a perfectly rational - believable - comment. Anyone with an inkling of what occurred saw this coming. The fault is primarily with his family members and himself, but yes, TN isn’t an innocent party here and has no room to cry or make out like the young fellow is the bad guy. He literally had a flashing sign over his head saying “Not My Choice”.

Put a band-aid on it, tenderfoot.
According to multiple reports and an interview the kid called in telling them he was signing with UT. Are you not going to take a commitment from a kid that you heavily recruited? I mean just because a kid backs off of a school and verbally commits to another really means nothing until they actually sign. Feels like it happens yearly with big recruits.

I think people are making this out like the staff did not do their job on this one or something.

Sounds like excuses for not recognizing this stuff sooner but I'm going to ride out the next season with your optimism, I don't have a choice.

I have a bad feeling about Knowles and the offense relies too much on a confident QB.

I see a train wreck coming next season. I hope I'm wrong.
LMAO...........

Sad for the family. But our organization needs to steer clear of Legend in a dignified, sympathetic way.

I agree. I don’t think that he’s toxic, I think that he really wants to go to Ohio state and his family pressured him into choosing Tennessee. Let him go where he wants to be. No offense to Legend, but I’d rather let him leave and use his NIL money in the portal next month over having a kid pout all season because he’s somewhere that he doesn’t want to be.

We just went through The Drama in Pajamas - let's try to have an off season that is drama-free.
Reading multiple articles about the guy across his recruitment, sounds like everyone was going after him; UT, Texas, aTm, tOSU, Ole Miss, etc.

The kid really liked tOSU because who wouldn't want to sign up for a team that is clearly in the cat bird's seat as far as winning Nattys, puts a WR in the Heisman discussion just about every year, and has a WR drafted high in the 1st round every year.

Sounds like the family wanted him closer to home though and the compromise was Tennessee.
Now that he will be "of age", he can change his commitment back to tOSU - folks are forgetting that he committed there first and was committed there far longer than he was to UT.
I say let the kid follow HIS dream and release him and use the slot and money for an upgrade elsewhere.

Does it mean you drop a spot or two in the 'signing class rankings'...so be it. We end up 5 or 6 instead of 4 or 5. That's not going to matter in the end game.

I was primarily responding to the folks making Bey out to be to be a bad guy when it appears he was pushed to TN by family, as a minor.
I looked back at news accounts and I was mistaken; Bey signed and the next day made it known that he was being pushed to TN on social media. I thought he'd made his desire for OSU before his signing.

So, yes, I agree there was no reason for TN to back off signing him if unaware he didn't want to be here. It was apparent within a day of signing, that he'd never see the field at TN as he became 18 during this portal period. There's no good reason Heupel won't release him.

Another example of don't get too excited about commits. Moma wanted him here, he didn't want to be here.

This is embarrassing. There's a reason this ding dong was even allowed to sign with UT and it's a huge red flag after Nico and Boo. To me this shows both desperation to sign anyone with stars next to their name and a failure to build a rapport and do basic research into the recruit.

There's a reason 5 stars like Nico, Boo and now Legend (the name alone should raise a sceptical eyebrow) will come to UT and it isn't because they want to win or rep the power T.

My point is, why is this a reoccurring thing with this staff? Injuries are enough to deal with, you don't need players sitting out because they're a bitch. Why UT still messin with bitches?
He was committed to UT before he flipped to OSU. They had a rapport with him and did their research, that's why he called CJH and flipped back on signing day. He didn't just call out of the blue.

I know all that. WTF was he allowed to sign if there was a good enough rapport to know he was just going to back out. There's no way you can spin this that doesn't look bad on the staff.

The story all along was he was not of legal age to sign when he did, so UT was a parental choice. Everybody supposedly knew all along the minute he became of age to sign on his on, he was going to request a release. He’s all about the donk or cash or a mixture of the two it appears.

Only a whopping 14.5% of VNites expected Non-Legend Bay to play for UT, so kudos to a very smart audience and let's ship that Dbag's letter of non commitment outta ktown ASAP. No room for sissy boys like this jackass.

Wishing you the kind of success Nico had after leaving UT. Buh bye!

Coach Heupel and/or AD White need to improve their foresight in a big way. This is the 3rd instance in the last 12 months where a football player has created undue drama, and this most recent one hasn't even taken a single snap as a Vol. The optics here are not good.

Nico. After he jumped ship literally the day before the O&W game, it came out that he (and his Dad) had been making demands and threats as far back as prep for the CFP game. So roughly 5 months of nonsense. His departure was a plus for UT Football.

Boo. Same thing. This time it was his bats**t crazy Mom who fanned the flames while Boo did his best impression of a teenager who should probably have still been in diapers. And then we watched another 4+ months of that crap before the inevitable and predictable end finally played out. His departure is a plus for UT Football.

And now, Bey. Regardless of which narrative you choose to believe as to how he ended up signing his NLI for UT, it's abundantly clear that he doesn't want to be here.

It's time to stop playing games with entitled idiots (and their parents), and start playing football games. This program should be 100% dialed-in on bowl prep and doing the advance work in the Portal to get ready for the 2026 season.

Just issue a press release stating that it appears that Bey doesn't want to be at UT, and that UT is releasing him from his NLI effective immediately. Wish him well, and move on.

This is not hard to figure out, or fix. He doesn't want to be here. Cut him loose, and go find another player that does.

Good grief...
