Lebron vs. Jordan

The first half, yes. The second, somewhat.

Do you not agree that players today are not stronger and more athletic by necessity?

Both are incredible at any time, but the styles really don't make a true comparison possible. I say Jordan, but can't really pick a winner until the body of work is complete on Lebron.

There are some things that stick... Most people on here have heard me crowing about the importance of a center to NBA titles. That's always been the case, IMO, and Jordan being the centerpiece of a dynasty with Horace Grant (good, not elite) and Luc Longley (Luc freakin' Longley?!?!) is crazy.

Kobe did it with Shaq, then Gasol, and if Lebron does it, it will be with Shaq and Big Z.

You didn't need an elite center back then. Hell, the Jazz made it to the Finals multiple years with Greg Ostertag.

But they had an elite PG and PF.

Bulls really had one elite offensive player and about 3 elite defenders at any given time.

Kerr was pretty clutch as well, but you're right, nothing consistently.

Look at all other franchises during championship periods in the NBA, Celtics of old, Lakers, Pistons, Spurs, etc., they all follow the same kind of philosophy, except the Bulls.

Yes. Sportscasters talked highlight reel O and they clamped down on D to win.

This is in response to page 1 of the thread... Jordan was a far superior player, however we are comparing a finished product versus a developing product which is tough to do.

The two MAJOR factors in Jordan's favor is that in his day the league wasn't as watered down by expansion (Heat and Hornets joined in '88 I believe, Raptors and Grizzlies '95 and the Bobcats weren't around) especially early in his career.

The biggest factor to me is the way the game has changed defensively. Is Lebron physical? Yes, however he didn't have to play against the Pistons and Knicks among others who essentially body slammed people, hand checked etc.

Today's game is set up so teams and individuals can score. I have no doubt a young Jordan would average 40 in this league.

And to the people who say LeBron is a better defender, you are out of your mind.

Then why doesn't everyone just do that? Seems like you guys know something nobody else knows...how to stop Lebron James from dropping 30 a night.

Does it really matter if he gets his in a different way? 30 points is 30 points.

There is a defensive three second violation. This makes help D etc more difficult.

I'm just looking at numbers, numbers don't lie and looking at the numbers, LeBron is every bit as good right now as Jordan ever was.

You don't know what you are talking about. The way teams have to play defense in today's game is totally different than the '80s and early to mid '90s.

The Knicks and Pistons would all foul out in the first half of today's game. It's not the same game, it's an easier game to score much in the same way football is.

There were also the Lakers, Sixers, Celts, Pistons...

There aren't teams today that could deal with those teams.

Truth. Players in the 80's/early 90's were better basketball players by far.

There weren't as many teams to water things down.

Are guys more athletic overall today? Yes, but they aren't better basketball players.

And this is coming from a 27 year old.

If we were down by 1 with 5 seconds left, I would personally take the ball away from Lebron and give it to Jordan

Glad you cleared it up for me...LeBron could average 40 back in the 80's...there isn't a player like him now, and there wasn't back then...6'8" 270 lbs...runs like a guard with the strength of a PF...I would love to have seen "The Bad Boys" try and play hard against him...would have been hilarious.
