Latest from WVU

You guys should know that Dana's sense of humor is dry and somewhat curmudgeon-like. Many, including the home media covering WVU, don't get when Dana's joking or when he's not.

He was joking about the "or" comments.

Dana and Bobby Huggins are close friends. Dana is one of the few people to have a key to Bobby's party barn but he's a character in his own right.

He's been white water rafting numerous times, jump out of an air plane, won a confrontation with the police in a casino and used to have his own state police delegation dedicated to keeping him out of trouble. He's outgrown that now and is beginning to learn how to be a head coach instead of an offensive coordinater.

Dana has been at WVU longer than Rich Rod or Bobby Bowden.

What most people don't realize about Dana is when he took over for Bill Stewart in 2011 he had only 50 scholarship athletes on the roster. The beloved Bill Stewart wasn't fired for going 9-3 three years in a row... he was fired for horrendous recruiting that saw only 40% of his signees even make it on campus.

Those low numbers continued to hurt WVU through this season. WVU's not like Tennessee. They don't sign a class full of 4 star kids. They sign a class full of high 3 star kids with a few 4 stars sprinkled in, but where WVU makes its hay is with projects like Yodny Cajuste. Cajuste was only a 2 star recruit but he's going to be a 1st or 2nd round draft pick.

That means WVU can't miss badly on a recruit. Stew missed badly on 60% of the 3 classes he recruited. Sure he brought in Geno Smith, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey, but everybody else was FCS caliber not FBS.

It took Dana a few years to understand he couldn't recruit Texas being the HC at WVU. When he figured out that Ohio, Pa, Va, Maryland and Fla are the places WVU is a known commodity. Since he's retooled his staff to recruit those areas WVU's slowly began to recruit the type of athletes they did when Rich was head coach.

To be honest most of that credit goes to Tony Gibson. Gibson is, in my opinion, the next HC of the Mountaineers and has "it". He's a great recruiter and the kids love him.

The only true knock on Dana has been his inability to recruit a QB out of HS. All of his starters have been transfers. That looks to have finally changed when Trey Lowe out of Bolivar, TN became a Mountaineer.

I can't see any reason why Lowe was only a 3 star QB. WVU loves him. He's pushed Jack Alliason, a Miami Fla transfer, to backup Grier.

Dana's jock is stuck to your face.

If this is the game plan that WVU goes with, I like the odds. CJP is a defensive genious and is up to the challenge of playing with a 1 demensional passing team. We have athletes, but I really think that the strength of our team is shifting to the defense, and we have the coach to do that now. If we can esatblish the run and not lean on the long ball and splash plays we are in good shape against WVU. The stregth of WVU being their offensive line plays to our advantage, we have to horses rotate and challenge an O-line that has good players that will wear down as the game goes into the second half. I like Grier to throw the ball around and have a couple taken away by Warrior or one of our other DB's.

He also worked for the best defensive mind and best HC of all time Nick Saban. So, how do you know that it was HIS defensive mind and not just the fact that he worked for Nick?

Seriously, i just told you why. Because he didn’t just have elite defenses under nick, he had them under Richt and fisher too! What about that are you not understanding. You act as if he only worked under nick when I’ve clearly pointed out the other places hes been and won.

That he expects WVU fans to outnumber Vols fans 60-40 on Saturday. Charlotte is home to over 300,000 WVU alums and ticket sells have been exceptional.

They expect over 68,000 and if its not a sell out its not going to be WVU's fault.

LOL you are nothing more than a Mountaineer shill.

UT requested and sold more tickets than WVU.

In terms of overall alumni base in the city, they are nearly identical per a WSJ study conducted over the past 10 years. 2% of WVU alumni live in the city compared to 1.4% of UT alumni...that difference amounts to WVU having about 200 more alumni living in the city over the past decade. And those numbers don't take into account the size of the fanbase that aren't alumni...which I'd wager the Vols have quite a sizable advantage (over most P5 schools).

I want to hear more about their fabulous coach and how their offense will do against our coach.

Here is some about ours:

Following Alabama's 2009 national championship season, Pruitt was named the Tide's defensive backs coach. During his first season in 2010, Alabama's secondary led the SEC in passing efficiency, and included one All-American, Mark Barron. The 2011 Alabama secondary led the nation in pass defense and passing efficiency, and included three All-Americans, Barron, Dre Kirkpatrick, and DeQuan Menzie. Both Barron and Kirkpatrick were drafted in the first round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Pruitt's 2012 secondary ranked seventh nationally in pass defense, and included Jim Thorpe finalist Dee Milliner.

He was named National Recruiter of the Year in 2012 by 247Sports.

In 2013, Pruitt was hired as the defensive coordinator at Florida State. In his lone season with the Seminoles, his defense ranked number one in scoring defense, allowing just 12.1 points per game, and ranked third in total defense, helping the 2013 Seminoles win the national championship.

In 2014, Pruitt joined the Georgia coaching staff as the defensive coordinator. His 2014 defensive unit finished 17th nationally in total defense, and finished in the top ten in turnover margin and passing yards allowed. Pruitt's 2015 unit at Georgia finished the season ranked seventh nationally in total defense, and led the nation in fewest passing yards allowed per game.

Pruitt returned to Alabama as defensive coordinator in 2016, replacing Kirby Smart, who had left to become the head coach at Georgia. His 2016 defensive unit led the nation in scoring defense and rushing defense, and was ranked second in total defense.[8] His 2017 Alabama defensive unit finished the regular season ranked second in total defense and first in scoring defense. The unit was part of the team that won the National Championship in the 2017 season.

Just wanted to apologize on behalf of all WVU fans. Please don't form your opinion of us based off of him.
I'll inform my opinion of West Virginia fans off of your regular 'Toss the Batteries at Opposing Fans and Players' contests. This guy's just icing the cake.

Bill Stewart was fired for actively undermining then coach-in-waiting Dana Holgerson and literaly fabricating stories of him being an alcoholic to slander the man. Did you just selectively forget the actual reason for Stewart being canned and then blame it on recruiting? By the way, Holgerson won the Orange Bowl with Stewart's players. Has done nothing of note since.

Also, and I could be wrong, but is there anybody outside of maybe personal friends who actually call Bob Huggins Bobby? I've never heard this. Let me guess... you were just at his house last night discussing how the 2018 WVU men's team could beat Golden State.
