Latest from WVU

Some notes: Dana says WVU used "or" on the depth chart just because Tennessee did. He says it doesn't really matter. McKoy will get the start for WVU at RB but true frosh Leddie Brown has been the most impressive RB in fall camp.

Dana doesn't think Pruitt will use two QBs that extensively because their styles are so different. He thinks Pruitt is astute enough to recognize WVU's weakness last year was on DL and he expects the Vols to make WVU prove they can stop the run.

Both USC transfer Kenny Bigelow and Clemson transfer Jabril Robinson have won starting jobs on the DL.
Hey man, I know you get a lot of sass in here, and some deservedly so, but after you answered my joke about WV having the worst economy, education levels, standards of living, and more with some genuine info - I respect you. Id love to hear what you think what strengths UT actually has over WVU.

Hey man can you just stop. You’re making all of us WVU fans look like arrogant tools. Even if that quote was right, which is impossible to know due to secondary ticket sales, what did you expect to accomplish by posting that? That is something you post on the WVU board. You can’t come to an opposing teams board and create thread after thread talking ****. It’s annoying, unnecessary, and disrespectful. Sorry Vol Fans, this guy represents the vocal minority of WVU fans.

Don't sweat it man. We all give each other a ration of s*** on here from time to time. Typically don't expect to see an opposing fan come in here jawing, but the VN police will take care of it if need be. We even let a few Gators on here too, if you can believe that. Lawrence Wright's a good Gator dude and Law Gator is a pretty good sport as he takes a verbal beating over on the Politics forum. Feel free to hang around and talk football. It's all good.

Seriously...how many transfers does WV have? Are any of their starters original recruits lol?

I mean, most teams that chase after transfers are in rebuild mode and need to fill the talent gap....looks like they are trying to make the most of this one year...sounds like a desperate coach trying to put all his eggs in one basket

What’s with this whole “SEC Caliber” and “SEC Speed/Size” BS that you guys keep referring to when comparing an opposing team’s roster or comparing matchups? It either shows delusion or stupidity on your part. Just in case you didn’t realize, we have played games against Georgia, Auburn (home and away), LSU (home and away), Mississippi State (home and away), Alabama, Missouri, and Texas AM since 2005. You make our 11th SEC opponent since then. We’re pretty familiar with the SEC and have had some reasonable success against a few of those conference opponents during that time frame. Here’s the kicker though, aside from a couple of really bad Mississippi State and Missouri teams we’ve come across, you guys are one of the worst SEC teams we will have seen. Your 4-8 and 0-9 record, plus what you have lost/returning shows that. Does that mean we blow you out on Saturday? Not necessarily, but I like our chances. If you think we haven’t seen “SEC” style or “SEC” athletes then go tell that to a wall because I promise you that whatever you put on the field Saturday we have seen better in recent years in both the SEC and Big 12. I’m sure Pruett will get you where you want to be as a roster and as a program, but Saturday isn’t going to be it.

Charlotte's population is 850,000. So, 35% of Charlotte is WVU alum?

The bald mule obviously meant Charleston WV, not Charlotte, NC. Fool has to know TN gets some of its best players from the greater Charlotte area.... Jay Graham, Shaun Ellis, Marquez North, Vereen, Worley, etc etc. It's a trap game for the slow witted m&mneers.

Wait, WV kicked major butt against a bad early season Mizzou, got lucky against a bad Auburn, and beat up on weak Mississippi teams when everyone else was too in the 2000's. Whoopdeefrickingdoo. Losing record nonetheless.

WVU currently has around 22,000 undergrads and 5,000 grad students. total students between grads and undergrads. If a quarter of total students graduate this year that would be 7,000 students. IF EVERY student that graduates moves to Charlotte it would take 42 years for there to become 300,000 WVU alums in Charlotte. I wouldnt believe everything you hear. Liars figure, but figures never lie.

Look at the rhea county education paying off. Now you know in WV this guy still using common core

I've done my best to give you guys accurate information about WVU. I can't force you to accept it, but I can forewarn you. Tennessee is catching a once-in-a-lifetime Mountaineer team at just the wrong moment.

The Vols have a new staff and new schemes on both sides. How many Vols players will be thinking about their assignments on Saturday? How many will miss assignments? There shouldn't be any debate that WVU's offense is one of, if not the, best in the nation. So how many mistakes can the Vols afford to make before WVU takes advantage?

WVU's players are in their 4th, 3rd and 2nd years of the same schemes. QBs in Dana's system usually see a vast improvement in efficiency from year 1 to year 2. Can we expect any less of Grier and company?

I can only hope the the Vols are overlooking WVU like many of you.

This is the year WVU makes a run at the playoffs and WVU needs to make an impression -- it could get ugly for Tennessee.

If Tennessee is going to win they need plenty of turnovers from WVU. I just don't see that happening...

Anyway, good luck the rest of the season.

p.s.

Here's a video that will teach you the lyrics of "Country Roads". You are all welcome to sing along with us when the musket fires to end the game.

Can this be posted in the locker room?

You guys should know that Dana's sense of humor is dry and somewhat curmudgeon-like. Many, including the home media covering WVU, don't get when Dana's joking or when he's not.

He was joking about the "or" comments.

Dana and Bobby Huggins are close friends. Dana is one of the few people to have a key to Bobby's party barn but he's a character in his own right.

He's been white water rafting numerous times, jump out of an air plane, won a confrontation with the police in a casino and used to have his own state police delegation dedicated to keeping him out of trouble. He's outgrown that now and is beginning to learn how to be a head coach instead of an offensive coordinater.

Dana has been at WVU longer than Rich Rod or Bobby Bowden.

What most people don't realize about Dana is when he took over for Bill Stewart in 2011 he had only 50 scholarship athletes on the roster. The beloved Bill Stewart wasn't fired for going 9-3 three years in a row... he was fired for horrendous recruiting that saw only 40% of his signees even make it on campus.

Those low numbers continued to hurt WVU through this season. WVU's not like Tennessee. They don't sign a class full of 4 star kids. They sign a class full of high 3 star kids with a few 4 stars sprinkled in, but where WVU makes its hay is with projects like Yodny Cajuste. Cajuste was only a 2 star recruit but he's going to be a 1st or 2nd round draft pick.

That means WVU can't miss badly on a recruit. Stew missed badly on 60% of the 3 classes he recruited. Sure he brought in Geno Smith, Tavon Austin and Stedman Bailey, but everybody else was FCS caliber not FBS.

It took Dana a few years to understand he couldn't recruit Texas being the HC at WVU. When he figured out that Ohio, Pa, Va, Maryland and Fla are the places WVU is a known commodity. Since he's retooled his staff to recruit those areas WVU's slowly began to recruit the type of athletes they did when Rich was head coach.

To be honest most of that credit goes to Tony Gibson. Gibson is, in my opinion, the next HC of the Mountaineers and has "it". He's a great recruiter and the kids love him.

The only true knock on Dana has been his inability to recruit a QB out of HS. All of his starters have been transfers. That looks to have finally changed when Trey Lowe out of Bolivar, TN became a Mountaineer.

I can't see any reason why Lowe was only a 3 star QB. WVU loves him. He's pushed Jack Alliason, a Miami Fla transfer, to backup Grier.
