I think you be right. To the poster that indicated that Porter may not accept, I don't think Dooley would offer if he didn't think Porter would accept but you are right.

OCI says there is mutual interest here and that it could happen.

If the pre-rumor rumors were true the bigger news would be Porter being run game coordinator which to me spells co-coordinator roles. If it plays out it's one of the few ways outside of dumping Chaney they could show a big push. Porter needs a back though to work with which is where his true expertise comes in.

He needs at least a dependable 2 deep. Neal and Smith are not what I'd classify as dependable right now and even Lane was banged up. TBH it's hard for me to make out what our run game could or should look like as unorganized as it was this year.

As crafty as DD is it's about as slick a way as you can stamp that you've addressed the holes in Chaney's schemes short comings as possible short of firing the man. Yet at the same time maintain some consistency especially with the passing attack which with a healthy Bray and Hunter should be worth protecting.

He's an all in gambler kind of guy without showing his cards. I think DD knows he sure as hell better be radical without toppling the apple cart. Behind the scenes he can tell Chaney it's political but on game day he could absolutely turn to porter and say give me a play.
