Lady Vols Softball

They had no chance against Ashley. Sad we had to use her she wound up pitching almost a whole game today. I think we must be having some health issues. Bender warmed up alittle but never went in. Callie seemed to be using a heating pad or something. Hazelwood is ok and Bailey does ok but gives up too many home runs. Has the change-up and some speed but her pitches don't seem to move much.

I was surprised because they gave up on Parsons in the field pretty quick (and with good reason- stats be dammed). That leaves an offensive hole. West played there for half an inning. If she could just be average at 2b her hitting would be a big boost day in and day out. I guess it was good to get practice coming from behind. Another base running gaffe what would a UT game without one.

Ally had a good day hitting. Our outfield defense is excellent. Going to have to bring more to beat Liberty tomorrow. Oh, and if you hadn't noticed Ivy can really play short!

Point taken that FSU is the one right now. Duke and FSU has pitchers from TN (Chattanooga, Maryville) while Clemson has a North GA kid that TN couldn’t close the deal on.

I'm thinking with the help of Megan....Callie will turn it around and I hope we get 2 more years of Rogers next spring we add the top pitcher from the state of Washington
Nicola Simpson
Here is Washington’s top ace. The Tennessee commit’s rise ball-curveball combination might be the best two-pitch sequence around (9-1, 1.04 ERA, 190K, three no-hitters in 80.2 IP last year). She just doesn’t get rattled.

The spring after that we add Karlyn Pickens.....should be able to go 1-2-3 on a weekend series for the first time in a while not having any of them pitch twice

Pickens is legit as long they don't break her down like they did Sprang, would like to see her elevate and have the same numbers against 18U like she does in 16U. Nicola Simpson was a surprise and going back to what I said earlier with Marty recruiting, the best with what was left over and recruiting second tier teams. Playing arm chair QB, the 2021 class could have went without a pitcher unless it was a in-state can't miss with the numbers we have, which we had but is going to Ole Miss. You have Pickens, and class in 2022 in-state that has 5 Top 30 nationally ranked (all committed now). McCachren to me is the #2 right now and Turner is playing her way out of the rotation as the lefty. Turner needed to put that game away and go deep yesterday against Furman to build up equity down the road when Rogers gets in trouble or needs a rest.

Liked we talked about earlier in this thread the explosion of softball in the south has helped. I mean I'm now seeing the Big 10 come into Alabama grabbing players. They used to live on the west coast too. New programs starting at Duke, Clemson, and Liberty cut into Tennessee getting players out of those states they used to get.
It's almost like when Tennessee won the NC in Football, our entire DLine was from the Carolinas. Lou Holtz came in to USC and made it harder for us in those two states and that was part of the slow bleed of what would take place from 2001 and on.

I imagine the transfer portal will be used the impact Davis has had here and the ability to fit in has been great to see

For that to happen it has to be a revolving door, one in one out. The one in has to be better than the one going out or you're two steps back again.

Without a doubt which is why I don't think coaches worry about players wanting to transfer out nowadays
