Knowles/Portal changes etc.

I’ll give it an A- considering the context of our needs.

Incredible turnover in the secondary. Blown away by what they did honestly. Kayin Lee, Qua Moss, TJ Metcalf all really good players ready to be reliable starters. And we added a ton of other intriguing players to the mix. We’re going to be so much better there it looks like.

Coming out of it with Arion and Amare Campbell is ridiculous.

Chaz Coleman might be the best prospect in the portal and we landed him. Norman was a big win too.

We did miss at QB. But seemed like we only swing for the fences on a couple special players, which gives me a little more confidence in our young guys. Or who knows maybe we struck gold with Staub lol.

I wanted more beef on the DL. But it’s a similar thing as QB. We swung for upgrades. But there wasn’t an unlimited amount of those. Gilliam was a great addition to an already talented room tho. Could still add somebody.

Happy with OL, considering the number of guys we let walk. I think we consolidated the depth chart and hopefully have less money invested in OL who will never see the field. We also didn’t overpay for Heard, and instead locked in Sanders at LT which is a big win for the short and long term imo.

I wanted more at RB. But I’m not sure the options in the portal really presented the right guy to go all in on. We came out of it with a good player in an already good room. We’ll be fine. And possibly outstanding at RB.

Love adding depth to the TE room. Trust whoever they bring in there at this point.

Adding in that we hired Knowles (+new assistants) and Ownings (+his new assistants), we added a ton of talent to the program. And removed some dead weight. We needed it and it’s made me feel really optimistic about next year.

How did we do? What grade are we giving ourselves?
Three question marks, IMO.

First, QB. GMac may be a stud. Or he could be a dud. We don't know yet. The hope, obviously, is that he plays to his ranking and tears it up. But we pursued portal options for a reason. Not entirely sure what those reasons are. Lots of rumors, but nothing concrete.

Second, OL. Heard is gone. Sanders moves from RT to LT as a true sophomore. New RT. No proven depth at OT other than moving Perry back from OG. We return the middle of the OL. This OL could be really good, or they could be pretty bad. I think it could go either way. A lot rests on Sanders shoulders and how he transitions to LT.

Lastly, DL. The new S&C coach has his work cut out for him. We're small on the DL right now. Off season S&C needs to fix that. For whatever reason, we only added one DL from the portal. That could hurt us if we can't get some of the younger guys ready to play.

Need to grab the Parker brothers from Washington.

One was projected to be a starter at DT this upcoming season.

B+ for me. 1 more DT moves it to an A-

Too early for a letter grade. Coaches are obviously taking a few gambles. Whether or not those gambles pay off will determine how well they did.
