Not much other explanation for the story. I doubt that millions upon millions of ESPN readers had been contacting the network for months begging them to write something about Kiffin's time here.

As soon as I saw the headline on the front page of their site, I thought, "Lane must have put his publicist up to that."

Ha ha. Your example is taking away a Heismann trophy. Lol. No one gives a damn about that.

The NCAA does not do shxt. Bama and Clesmon are as corrupt as anyone ever gets and they aren't doing shxt. UNC is another example.

I agree with this 100%. And the contract needs to require him to give us a kidney and a lung along with a digit or two if he bolts again.

If Lane would have stayed, I think we win the East in 2011, after Urbs left FL. But we would have undoubtedly been under a NCAA post season ban. Lane would have probably been forced out., Hugh Freeze style, within a couple of years. But at least we wouldn't have had to suffer through Dooley. Who knows who we would've hired instead, but probably someone with a better resume than Butch.

Agree I’d pick Lane over another Butch or Dooley. But never over another serious candidate.

I don’t understand the infatuation with an immature guy who ran a poor program while winning only seven games.

It was probably Chris Low's idea to get a few days in Florida under the guise of writing a needed story since it's been 10 years.

Yeah, if you are of the opinion that we never should have fired Fulmer then you are correct. I am not of that opinion, so the hiring of his successor remains the pivotal event. We botched it about as badly as was possible.

Firing Fulmer started the decline but Kiffin leaving speeded up the process.

One gets the impression he regrets leaving and would gladly come back.

The last few coaching searches we've had clearly proves we cant get anyone better but 70 year old UT fans wont agree with that.

We won it and would know we won it and saw it with our very own eyes.

Taking away wins is like throwing away 4 day old meatloaf.

We would have already had our fill of it.

Monte was wearing USC gear and doing consulting AT USC while on our staff. At the time nobody on here wanted to to think twice @ it.

Also, Lane was like a kid in a candy store as the article shows. Good read btw. But, one thing that gets me is Monte's quote @ staying. I always wondered why the elder never counseled the younger to stay put. Monte was old enough to know that making THAT jump to the dream job was a bad idea. He either made no attempt or Lane didn't listen. It was a shortsighted move. A move that sent us into a tailspin that we've yet to recover from.

The Kiffin matter was made worse by the timing of USC offering and his accepting. The traditional time of coaches shuffling had been long over and staffs were in place for the following season. This is why I don't believe Cutcliffe would have come even if offered. Dooley took a chance but there were no major big time coaches coming for the job at that point on the calendar. I remain convinced we should have gone with Kippy as the interim and let that following season fall out wherever it would have happened.

The AA hammered USC when they were on top of college football, hurt Penn State for a couple of years, and more recently, sent Ole Miss back to irrelevance.

If Lane stayed, we would have had a different decade. I love, yet hate the guy. I do miss Layla! I really did love the story about him hiding in his office while mattresses burned outside, I do love our students and fanbase more than him. Ride or die, we gon burn some s@*t!!!!!
