Kiffin article about UT; front page ESPN

And who gives a damn if the NCAA took away a championship years after we won it?

We won it and would know we won it and saw it with our very own eyes.

Taking away wins is like throwing away 4 day old meatloaf.

We would have already had our fill of it.
This is basically the philosophy of the rapist, the acquisition may have been illegal, but we'll always have the sex. Shows we mean business l suppose.

I like Chaney, but would like to have seen us offer Kiffin as OC.
He didn’t leave Bama for a HC gig to turn around and come back to UT for an OC gig...for less money and working for Pruitt.

Really is a shame he left when he did. Failed or not, his recruiting could have at least setup the next coach for success. Plus his and his dad's Offense and Defense were exciting and pretty successful at most of their stops.
First major signs of Monte slipping presented during the Ole Miss game and it got gradually worse at USC. Lane had to let daddy go before he got the boot himself on the tarmac.

The AA hammered USC when they were on top of college football, hurt Penn State for a couple of years, and more recently, sent Ole Miss back to irrelevance.

They're harmless. USC is where they are because of bad hires. PSU barely felt anything and Ole Miss is just Ole Miss. Operating out of fear of the AA is the path of losers.

Monte was wearing USC gear and doing consulting AT USC while on our staff. At the time nobody on here wanted to to think twice @ it.

Also, Lane was like a kid in a candy store as the article shows. Good read btw. But, one thing that gets me is Monte's quote @ staying. I always wondered why the elder never counseled the younger to stay put. Monte was old enough to know that making THAT jump to the dream job was a bad idea. He either made no attempt or Lane didn't listen. It was a shortsighted move. A move that sent us into a tailspin that we've yet to recover from.

Why would you counsel your kid against leaving for his dream job? Says more about your parental judgement......

I seem to recall some reports that Monte did discuss staying at UT, and some reports that he considered staying anyhow. But, I could be misremembering. It happens.

In any event, Lane (even though he sometimes didn’t act like it) was a grown @$$ man. He was going to o what he wanted to do.

Dude is totally trying to win us back over in the event that Pruitt doesn’t work out. That being said, no way Fulmer hires the guy who replaced him and abruptly left Tennessee.

but Fulmer had no control over them hiring Kiffin

I absolutely HATE the way he left UT but you can't fault anyone for leaving for their dream job... just like Pruitt would leave if Bama wanted him

I will also say Kiffin definitely got a lot out of the kids he had on the team that year. That was probably the last year I can remember actually thinking we could potentially play and beat anyone we played

He got good play out of them in some games, but they laid eggs in others. UCLA, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech. The Auburn loss was also disappointing, as they also entered that game with a new coach (Chizik) and it was at Neyland at night. People seem forget about those games though.

That article reminded me of just how electric it was that year. I wish things didn’t end how they did. Kiffin is like the bad kid in the neighborhood your parents tell you not to hang out with, but for some dumb reason he still manages to get you in trouble and you still like him.

Not against Kiffin coming back. Personally, if he had stayed I think that we would be averaging 9-10 wins per season and he’d still be the HC. Just saying that there’s no way he coaches here as long as Fulmer is AD.

So, you think losing 20 to 30 scholarships is “harmless”?
Anyone who didn’t notice the impact on USC and Ole Miss just didn’t pay attention.

SC, UGA and almost Alabama were fun. Games like UCLA, Auburn, Vandy and the bowl were like dental surgery.

The SC and UGA games are two of the most surprising results I can ever remember.

My friend and I went to UGA that year and had amazing seats. A UGA couple sat behind us, and we had some fun with them that game! 😂

My favorite part of that game was when we thought Eric Berry had broken the interception return yards record. At least, I think that was the record. Bummer it got called back!

In other news, I think Kiffin may have been a phenomenal coach had he stayed here. This may have been said already, but I think his getting the USC gig after only one year inflated his already massive ego to elephantine proportions. Had he stayed, I think he may have developed more as a coach, learned, and really sought to grow as a head coach against the likes of Meyer, Saban, Miles, and Spurrier.

Instead, he went back in overconfidence to a comfortable school and a familiar conference and tried to relive his glory years. But, hampered by sanctions and not enough head coaching experience, he failed.
