Kiffin article about UT; front page ESPN

Really is a shame he left when he did. Failed or not, his recruiting could have at least setup the next coach for success. Plus his and his dad's Offense and Defense were exciting and pretty successful at most of their stops.

Hiring Kiffin led to every bad thing that has happened since, including losing to Georgia State.
The program though is far more damaged today than it was when Kiffin was hired or when he left. I don't disagree that Kiffin leaving triggered what has ultimately been a negative series of events. However, Kiffin leaving didn't force the Dooley hire, or the Butch hire, or the loss to Georgia St.

There were opportunities to right the ship after he left (the biggest one being right after he left, either getting Cut or waiting and going with an interim), but the admin botched those chances as well. It hasn't been just one bad decision - it's been a series of them, and the cycle just hasn't been broken yet.

Our admin is incapable of making good decisions with things are relatively OK, so why should they be better decision-makers when things get really bad?

WOW - look at them numbers by Crompton that year compared to previous 3 years. REALLY, REALLY hope two things 1) Pruitt lets Chaney open up that offense again and 2) we find a QB that is capable of running said offense.

Good, bad, or indifferent towards Kiffin - that team was fun to watch.

I take it your soccer playing days were over?

They never really began. It was a father/son deal. I tried to avoid running over an 8 year old kid and payed the price. Should’ve plowed him in retrospect. He would have been fine.

But yeah, athletics are over for me.

The Dooley hire was the worst part. Yeah I know Kiffin left at the.worst.possible.time, right before signing day, but did we have to take DOOLEY? A coach who barely had a losing record at Lousianna Tech, and the season before had gone 4-8??? Holy ****! We'd have been better off naming an interim coach from whatever was left of the current staff to get through signing day, then make a proper hire over the summer.

I didn't realize how bad Dooley's record in 2009 was till I looked.

That was an unbelieavably bad hire. Thank you Mike Hamilton, for so much.

As for Butch, no not the long term solution, but did at least get us to and win three consecutive bowls and had a nice 11-game win streak that included Georgia and Florida. That 11-game run streak is about the only good thing to happen at UT since 2007. Hoping we can change that in the next year or so. It starts Saturday, I hope.

Such an exciting year, Kiffin and Co. had Crompdaddy rolling by mid-season and Montario Hardesty was so fun to watch. I'll never forget standing in freezing rain on Halloween Night and hearing the roar of the crowd as the Vols came out in black for the first time ever.

Kiffin had UT in 2 games against #1 ranked teams that UT had no business being in. Before the UF game there were talks of UF scoring 100 points on UT. And the Bama game...what a D performance that day and Crompton came alive in 4th qtr.

Had Kiffin stayed UT would be the Miami of the 80's. And as long as they were winning the "holier than thou" types would be fine with it. Just look at the polls on here over the last decade regarding breaking the rules if it meant winning.

Lane is a much better guy now than when he was here, the USC gig humbled him quite a bit. However the way he left was ridiculous and was just a slap in the face, the man is a great offensive coach but if he had stayed I'm afraid we would've been in all kinds of trouble with the NCAA.

This last sentence, that line of thought. I think is so overplayed. The NCAA does not increase revenue by making members irrelevant. You hardly see these hard line stances from them any longer. Hell, PSU ran a school for raping young boys. How devastating were their penalties?

If we're lucky we'll get Lane back when Pruitt's days are over.

If we didnt have too much pride we would have called him this last time we needed a coach.

SC, UGA and almost Alabama were fun. Games like UCLA, Auburn, Vandy and the bowl were like dental surgery.

The SC and UGA games are two of the most surprising results I can ever remember.
They beat vandy 31-16 in 2009...

Actually no it's not overplayed, losing scholarships, negating wins or even championships, Heisman trophies ( Reggie Bush). It's a big deal just because the NCAA hasn't laid down a death penalty since smu it's still a big deal. Penn state had to negate wins, lost scholarships, had their once proud name drug through the mud and one of the greatest coaches ever was looked at as an enabler to a sick disgusting act. I love the University of Tennessee, I played for Coach Fulmer and I for one wouldn't want our great university looked at in that light. We were on probation after Kiffin left due to violations and that was enough. I don't hate Kiffin by no means, I feel we hired him at the wrong time now he's matured some or atleast more than he was when he was here.

Go Vols!!
