There's a great video making the rounds of Biden, during the Clarence Thomas confirmation, emphatically saying that an FBI investigation into all of this is inconclusive, and wouldn't substantiate anything. All they would do is interview both parties and document what was said, which is exactly what is going on during this hearing.

both sides are going to read into it what they want.

He comes out angry. the repubs say he is an innocent man upset at his life being ruined. the democrats would say he is trying to cover things up.
if he came out calm. the repubs would say that is a man who knows he is innocent. and the democrats would say he is hiding something
if he came out joking. the repubs would say he must be innocent to joke. and the democrats would say he is using jokes to avoid the truth.
