Kavanaugh Confirmation

The problem with the allegation is there's no proof. Not even a corroborating witness. It's simply he says/she says. She doesn't remember key details, and if I read the story correctly, she admits to drinking that day as well.

IF the allegations are true, I am not without sympathy. In the same vein, I'm loathe to see Kavanaugh's career derailed over possibly false accusations.

More than anything, the timing of all of this is just so suspicious. I just wonder how much weight should be given to an allegation that can neither be proven nor disproven?
Absolutely none.

Everyone can see what's about to happen if Kavanaugh is declined with no proof.

Go ahead and weaponize sexual assault claims. We already have paid protesters. Might as well have paid sexual assault victims too.

I expect the MSM will have him labeled guilty by 9am.

If I wrote a letter of this magnatude I wouldn’t have gone with the “leave me out of it” approach. She can tell her side all she wants but it’s now irrelevant to the conversation and shouldn’t be considered in the confirmation hearings. If she wanted it as part of the discussion then she should have made an issue long ago instead of playing a game

Sending a letter in July and asking for confidentiality isn't really sitting on it. Again, the obvious question hasn't been asked except by the WaPo. And I don't trust them to get the facts straight.

Her name is out there. She'll have to follow up at this point.

Sad. There are people that are doxxing this woman, giving out her address, and phone numbers. And some of you wonder why she didn't come forward sooner.

I doubt she'd be getting all of this attention if she had come forward years ago. The reason people are so interested now is she waited until he was being considered for the SCOTUS. I think it natural to wonder if she has ulterior motives.

Oh, Slice? You know my question was purely hypothetical. Everyone knows you'd never be the victim of a sexual assault. No matter how many roofies you give yourself, it's not going to happen.

Many sexual assault victims don't come forward for years. It's very common. Of course, I'm sure you already knew that.

I did know that. I also know she put her trust in Feinstein and was betrayed. Not to mention she could have come forward at any of his other appointments to "reveal what kind of person he really is". Why wait til now? You have to admit the timing is suspicious. And without any evidence, only her word, how are we to know beyond doubt she is being honest? Lots of questions to be asked, but you seem ready to believe her because it helps your politics. If politics were reversed, I'd still ask questions because they need to be answered. If politics were reversed, would you still be quick to believe her allegations?

Don't be silly. You made up your mind as soon as Trump nominated him you were going to oppose it.

First, no I didn't. I don't have a strong opinion of him one way or another.

Second, it doesn't matter. Much like the collateral attack you guys make on Mueller, the politics don't matter. The facts do.

All the identifying information was given when she came forward. Sucks she's being harassed but to call this doxxing is an overstatement

The timing is suspicious. I'd like to hear her testimony and her description of events, and why it is only coming out now.

Closed hearing would be an epic mistake by the GOP.

I don't want anyone guilty of a sexual assault on the SCOTUS for life. Screw the politics. Come on, man. This must be investigated fully.

Sure.
Follow up at their leisure.
The vote shouldn’t change as this isn’t relevant. If it was relevant it would have been an issue in July.

I believe it should be her choice. I can certainly see why she might want it to be a closed hearing.

We will never know if he's guilty.

Likewise, we don't know if anyone on there now or in the past was guilty of sexual assault or anything equivalent.

I agree a closed door session should be involved. On both sides of that equation.

But you know as well as I do the problem is the "facts" will get twisted around by both sides in such a thing.

That's why a closed session would be a disaster for the GOP. It would make it look like they believe her but are going to confirm anyway. N

Someone's already beat me to it, but most likely we will never know if he's guilty or not. The alleged victim has no evidence and no corroborating witness. It's his word against hers. I don't want a sexual offender on the SCOTUS either, but an accusation doesn't make Kavanaugh guilty.

And it set a horrible new standard for behavior during these hearings. If anyone thinks the other side won’t now play just as dirty when the roles are reversed their fooling themselves
