The interesting thing here - his reputation is impeccable including work and social relationships with women. There is one unproven and un corroborated allegation and all the sudden his reputation is suspect.

If after the hearings one believes his character is in question I don't see how a quick FBI investigation will erase those doubts.

The minimum amount of time the democrats will accept for an FBI investigation is through the midterms. If the FBI takes 3 days to investigate this and finds nothing they will cry foul, pressure from Trump, sloppy job, etc. What’s weird is that if Feinstein has asked for an FBI investigation in July they would have had nearly three months to review things by now. Nobody has to talk to the FBI about this since it's not a criminal investigation. They won't be able to subpoena records or compel an interview, just what are they going to investigate? All the relevant players have already given statements saying it didn't happen or they can't recall anything like that.
