Kaiden Salter annointed as next Deshaun Watson

Pure hyperbole on Kaidon. He finished 16th in the SI Elite 11 QB competition, which is great. However, that does not sound like a program changer. Dabo said that Deshaun was Michael Jordan.

QB guru Trent Dilfer has just made the statement that incoming vol freshman QB compares closely and could become the next Deshaun Watson! We are about to enter a return to glory these next few years. This is great news to hear, and especially now that he will be playing in a pass happy explosive CJH offense!
If I recall correctly, he also promised very highly of one Josh Dobbs. I'll take it. :)

This is Difler on Guarantano:

Trent Dilfer, head of the Elite 11 and former NFL quarterback, during Guarantano’s recruitment.
“He’s almost too talented,” Dilfer said, via FOX Sports. “Essentially, Guarantano can make every throw in the book — and do so with unmatched speed and power… He’s got everything you could ever want.”

Unmatched speed and power ? Everything you could ever want !!

Renowned QB guru reportedly views Tennessee’s Jarrett Guarantano as the SEC prototype under center

Other QB guru comapred him to Cam Newton !!

so take it with a grain of salt :)

The common denominator is that they were describing "Practice Guarantano"? Dilfer was probably right on the money.

You obviously didn't see the throws he managed to get right. JG had a lot of zip (power) on his passes, but he couldn't throttle it on the short and medium routes. He also could make every throw required of a QB but stared down receivers on sideline routes and too often threw jump balls down the field. Had the physical gifts.
Nope.

I've liked Salter since he showed interest. There is a chance he will be that great... and a chance he's a career scout team player. We need to let these guys prove themselves.

Most of JG's problem was between his ears. He was simply too slow in processing information.

The one criticism you could make of his throwing ability is that he wound up and had a little bit of a long delivery. He tried to make up for it with velocity which caused other problems.

Dilfer didn't know JG's head problems when he was in a live game when he made that prediction. As stated above, he only saw the practice JG, not the real QB that matters. Sounds like the freshman has a real upside and could fit into the new offense well if he has SEC level skills. Hope he does.

Heard the same for JT Shrout too.

This is why he could never succeed here

We never questioned JG's talent. He looked the part. The problem was above the shoulders with that kid. He got brutally beaten early in his career and had 100 different OC's. He was basically damaged beyond repair. Two things can be true. You can be talented and still suck.

Good point on the long delivery.

I questioned his talent because I don't make a habit any more of jumping ahead because of "stars".... I learned that lesson the hard way too many times.

He got beaten brutally precisely because he thinks too slow and winds up before throwing. The OC excuse holds no water. Other guys deal with similar situations and are able to adjust.

Talent is a composite thing. He had arm strength and size. He lacked the mental talent needed to play at this level. I truly wish it weren't true. Who knows how the last 4 years might have been different? He seems like a good kid. He's tough. He committed himself to UT and endured more than he should have had to endure. He is apparently smart off the field. Some people just don't have the ability to process and react as fast as is needed.

He doesn't need to be a fighter pilot either.
