Kahlil declares for draft

Gaulden was great McKenzie was great...our linebackers graded out well...man. I guess I must have dreamed getting annihilated by every offense in the SEC.

KMs production(or lack thereof) was more a direct result of Butch Jones coaching and his culture. Same with the other Vols potential talent that either didn't pan out or destroyed by injury. Most of that Butch's fault. Every one of these guys that is a success in the NFL is a further condemnation of Butch Jones. For that reason alone I wish KM the best of luck in the NFL under the direction of real coaches.

As a rival fan who just wants to keep tabs on other teams and enjoys mostly reading the posts here, has anyone looked at the scholarship crunch at UT next year? seems like with seniors and early departures the roster will be short of the 85 limit (assuming 25 signed this year). But again, i'm less plugged in then all of you maybe there are much less seniors on last years roster.

We always have to let attrition take some deadweight just to have enough room. Same this year.

Never panned out? He was great this past year and good the year before when he was healthy.

He's just a DT that takes on double teams and stands his ground. He's not a penetrating DT that gets sacks and TFLs. To see KMac's effectiveness you actually have to watch him play. You'll never know how good he played by looking at the stat sheet.

Kahlil was really good this past season. He was our 3rd or 4th best defensive player IMO after Nigel Warrior, Rashaan Gaulden, and Daniel Bituli.

lol - 3rd or 4th best player on a horrendous defense.

He was not an impact player whatsoever during his time at Tennessee. He wasn't awful, but also wasn't great, which is disappointing considering his physical tools, star rating, and pedigree. I did watch him play. He simply was not a disruptive force on the line of scrimmage.

Exactly. This roster can't be turned over fast enough.

doesn't need to be too fast with the hard 25 scholarship cap. i'd like to see some of these upperclassmen finish their eligibility, especially those at positions where we have depth concerns.

losing kmac is a big hit depth wise, and it's doubtful we'll be able to replace him as quickly as needed.

i think the thing that speaks volumes is that he declared before CJP got back on campus.

With his father being who he is, you would think he wouldn't be in such a hurry to get to the league.

But I guess he got some good info on his draft stock and decided to make the jump.

Can't blame him. I don't see much better than 7-5 next season. He probably wouldn't have improved his stock that much.

Record doesnt matter, except for maybe qb, tape does and he has not been elite.

Has there ever been a team go 0-8 in their conference but still have 3 players leave early for the draft? That sounds crazy.

Well, it certainly makes Butch look bad.

I can understand Kelly going (being a RB) and perhaps Gaulden (could be unsure about his role in the new defense given the unique way he was used in Shoop's defenses).

McKenzie I think still has much more he could prove. I think he is the easiest of the three to make a case for staying. Of course, he also has obvious NFL connections.

I'm with you.... I never saw one bright spot on the s defence.

I'm sure Gaulden and McKenzie (especially Gaulden, given the unique/hybrid nature of the position he played) don't want to risk being square pegs in round holes in a new defense in their final seasons.

No wonder ya'll attack me so much for everything I say.

You guys seriously know nothing about this sport you claim to follow.

I mean its one thing to not know the difference between a 1-technique and 3-technique defensive tackle in the 4-3 defense. But to not even know that Taylor Lewan and Joe Thomas are left tackles that will never match up with a defensive tackle like Kahlil unless there is a stunt is shocking.

Seriously this is SHOCKING.

As SHOCKING as your statement that you didn't know how important coaching was in the college game?

the sad part is i think both of those guys would actually fit really well in the new defense. especially kmac. need a big guy to eat up space and let those lb's fly.

i think Kmack is built for the NFL interior dline. and Gaulden could play nickel in the NFL right now. Kelly is the riskiest given how many RB's there are and that he just doesn't bring anything 'special' to the table. i love JK, and think he's really really good. but he's not uber fast, and even as physical as he is, so are a lot of backs in the NFL.

Knowing our luck, another "nfl rookie of the year" candidate, which NFL teams are thanking butch for under-coaching him so he fall in their laps in late rounds.

In an "totally unrelated" point. I wonder if the new coaching staff has outlined how much harder the offseason work outs will be going forward.

and just to add...so much so they didn't even want to spend some more time with the new HC to find out exactly what the plans are? especially Kmac.

I think in this case you are going to want everyone else to be correct here.

If you are right and KMac was getting it done and commanding double teams, it says the rest of your front seven is as useless as air brakes on a pregnant turtle.

Are you trying to say our DL wasn't very good? Stop beating around the bush...........

Kelley is a joke, but if you can get the green i guess you can buy better green with NFL money if he makes it.:cool2:
