fact is most of the time the kids don't live up to what their parents did in a sport, i'm talking about the parents that were actually one of the greats.
You're talking about a very small sampling if you are just going to talk about the "greats" with no logical reason behind making it so small. And yes, Archie Manning was one of the greats. Just mired in the dregs of a terrible franchise most of his career. FWIW, he was before my time too, but this is football we are talking about and he was only the father of our greatest QB ever.
Archie Manning was the best QB in the SEC at the time, one of the best in college, and like was already posted, he was wasted in New Orleans with the "Haints". There was even a song written about him while at Ole Miss. He would only not be considered great due to who he played for.
I feel my response fits your criteria.
Also Richard Petty as Lee Petty's son. Lee was a very successful driver in the early days of NASCAR, winning at least one championship.
I can see them running well at Talladega and the spin will then be, "Oh look, they ran well at Talladega, everything is OK after all."
Because obviously Talladega is a fantastic indicator of how you're going to run at Darlington, Richmond, Charlotte, and so on...
