Redshirt sophomore forward J.P. Estrella of the University of Tennessee men's basketball team will not play Wednesday night against Oklahoma.

Estrella has been ruled out due to left foot soreness. His status is day-to-day moving forward and he will continue to be evaluated.

The Scarborough, Maine, native has appeared in 23 contests for Tennessee this season, including starting each of the past seven. He is averaging 9.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 61.6 percent from the floor.

Definitely concerning. If he’s out extended time, or for the season, we’re cooked. This team is heavily dependent on his front court presence. He’s the only reliable post threat on offense. We become pretty one dimensional when he isn’t on the court.

I haven't seen numbers yet, but the bigs had solid night. Burg's steal and streak down floor was a pleasant surprise.

It’s a precautionary thing mostly, it sounds like. We desperately, desperately need him as healthy as possible going into the dance. For us to make a serious run, we HAVE to have him out there. There’s no other consistent 3rd scorer on the roster.
I’d hold him out for a couple of more games if it might help…

It’s really too bad. JP might even have been a G league player if he wasn’t so fragile.
Huh? He has two years of eligibility remaining and just put up 16 points against LSU playing with a sore foot.

JP needs to work with a specialists in strengthening his lower body. There a lot of techniques that could help him.
