Josh Dobbs over-rated.

We wouldn't have been in a bowl game last season if not for Dobbs. I know that was last season but still. I put the blame on the coaching staff in a few areas especially not going for the touchdown on fourth and inches.

Yeah I've seen a few but the coaches are taking most of the heat. I agree the game was coached/managed poorly but I saw Dobbs miss a lot of easy throws and become very hesitant as the game got closer. I'm worried we hyped him up so much cause compared to Worley he looked like a heismen qb. I'm afraid teams are going to stack the box the rest of the way and say Dobbs beat us and I'm not sure he can with his arm. Our line and receivers look average also but Dobbs doesn't seem to make big plays on the big stage when we need it. On the bright side we have studs coming in behind him and might have a sleeper as our 2nd stringer.

Funny, I think we over-hyped the whole team. Not that they aren't improving, but they may not win 10 games and be in the SEC CG. The hype their fault?

He has started two seasons, but actually relatively few games and he has a new OC this year.

His performance starting in the mid-second quarter was not good and a cause for concern, but there is a lot of football left and he can and hopefully will improve.

The staff could probably help him avoid pressure caused by our still overmatched (but improved) OL with more quick slants and screens and so forth, but he should get better as the year progresses, as should the OL and hopefully the WRs.

The WRs are the biggest head scratcher to me...we have tons of talent there and yet they still underperform.

I'm beginning to believe that our wideouts are considerably overrated. One catch for a short gain by out best WR(North) is a strong indication that something is out of whack.

Happy Festivus, Knoxville. The checkered airing of grievances is in full swing, I am sure inspiring the next two classes of recruits as we are one big hap...one really big family! Lumps of coal for coaches and the young players get a good caning lest they learn and grow from their shortcomings😉😉

2008:
Crompton - 86/157 (51%) 889 yards (5.67ypa) 4TD/5INT
Gerald Jones - 40rec 323 yards 4TD
Denarious Moore - 11rec 271yards 2TD

2009:
Crompton - 224/384 (58.3%) 2800 yards (7.3ypa) 27TD/13INT
Jones - 46/680/4
Moore - 40/ 540/7

It's the coaching.

Yeah that pass he hit Ellis in the hands with was a terrible throw!Almost as bad as the one he bounced of Malone's numbers. Josh is only overated if you thought he was the second coming of Cam Newton. I never did. He's a better than average dual threat college QB that will win a lot of games for us as soon as this coaching quits wetting their pants in big moments.

This is true (I'm pretty sure it's a shot at CBJ but I'm a little slow...may be just posting facts).

But consider these options:

HURD RUNNING
KAMARA RUNNING
DOBBS RUNNING
DOBBS THROWING

which of the 4 is our worst option? That is probably the answer to "where is our WR and QB stats". I know it doesn't mean we never should throw but probably trying to win it on the ground more than trusting Dobbs' arm.

Also, important to note that Crompton has/had a much better arm than Dobbs.

OL is second worst (last year was worst) in Vols history.
Play calling is questionable.
Dobbs is not accurate, even on screens.

Add all those things together and you see why this offense sucks. Which is a shame, these poor 4 and 5 star receivers deserve MUCH better. No wonder Mecole Hardman doesn't want to come here.

I disagree to an extent. It is hard to eval a stationary QB like worley with a weak O line. Dobbs' strength is his mobility. He is supposed to have an advantage when the line falters or the play needs an extra second or two to develop. I know he can pass deep because of the reports coming out of camp and practices. There is something different in the pressure of game time though. Ironically, i think his running improves when the lights are on compared to practice. Debord was supposedly helping a ton with Josh's offseason mechanics and fundamentals. Where is the evidence that it is helping?
DeBord is wasted space.

Spurrier may want to coach some qbs one day and do some play calling from AC /heated booth, he is CBJs b(u)tch after all. Just sayin.

Overhyped, yes.

Overrated, I guess we'll see.

He certainly won't be mentioned in the same sentence with Heisman anymore.

His down field passing could use some work, but I don't remember people calling him out when he passed and then ran for a TD.

He was NOT the problem Saturday. The problem was on the sidelines.

He's a big part of the problem. Looks very tentative when he's looking down field. He misses wide open receivers all the time. It's obvious to me the coaches have no confidence in him throwing anything over a 25 yard pass. Defenses aren't afraid of getting burned so they just stack the line of scrimmage. With a good passer we win the Oklahoma game. You can't blame everything on the coaches. Wait until we have a qb that can really pass (possibly Dormady) and I bet you'd change your mind real fast about the coaches.

Other than JRM, Cam, TK, Josh Smith and Vereen you could find fault with everyone else, refs & coaches included at one point or another during the game. Even Hurd had a fumble or two.

Get over it, get better, keep the recruiting pipeline open!

WR's need to get open.

Line needs to block...it only takes one blown block per play to lose yards.

Our foot was never really in the gas. We just had a couple of early drives where the read option got going.
You're wrong! We were throwing the ball all over the yard and built up that HUGE 17 points. Then we just stopped because Butch and Debord are scared to win....
Isn't that right? LOL

Here's the thing. Since Dobbs can't throw well, he needs to be able to run. But it seems to me that Dobbs is MUCH more hesitant to run this year. I know he has to keep himself healthy but he's very mediocre without his running ability.

I would like to see the coaches mix it up when the defenses get an upper hand.

Come out and run a few plays in the wishbone with Dobbs, Hurd and Kamara

Then the I-Formation with 2 TEs and Hurd at FB/Kamara at TB. Pound their DL/LBs. And throw Wolf/WR some passes out of the I.

Do the unexpected. A big part of keeping drives alive is keeping the Defenses guessing. If you confuse them, they must think before reacting and that is usually enough to get extra yardage.

Ok was guessing and confused in the first half...not in the 2nd half

Hopefully Dobbs will get better as the season rolls on. But what made it look worse Saturday, is that OUs walk on QB looked better than him. Hes still going to have alot of opprtunties to live up to the hype. I will start judging his performances when he hits the meat of the SEC schedule.
