Yeah I've seen a few but the coaches are taking most of the heat. I agree the game was coached/managed poorly but I saw Dobbs miss a lot of easy throws and become very hesitant as the game got closer. I'm worried we hyped him up so much cause compared to Worley he looked like a heismen qb. I'm afraid teams are going to stack the box the rest of the way and say Dobbs beat us and I'm not sure he can with his arm. Our line and receivers look average also but Dobbs doesn't seem to make big plays on the big stage when we need it. On the bright side we have studs coming in behind him and might have a sleeper as our 2nd stringer.
He has started two seasons, but actually relatively few games and he has a new OC this year.
His performance starting in the mid-second quarter was not good and a cause for concern, but there is a lot of football left and he can and hopefully will improve.
The staff could probably help him avoid pressure caused by our still overmatched (but improved) OL with more quick slants and screens and so forth, but he should get better as the year progresses, as should the OL and hopefully the WRs.
The WRs are the biggest head scratcher to me...we have tons of talent there and yet they still underperform.
I'm beginning to believe that our wideouts are considerably overrated. One catch for a short gain by out best WR(North) is a strong indication that something is out of whack.
2008:
Crompton - 86/157 (51%) 889 yards (5.67ypa) 4TD/5INT
Gerald Jones - 40rec 323 yards 4TD
Denarious Moore - 11rec 271yards 2TD
2009:
Crompton - 224/384 (58.3%) 2800 yards (7.3ypa) 27TD/13INT
Jones - 46/680/4
Moore - 40/ 540/7
It's the coaching.
DeBord is wasted space.I disagree to an extent. It is hard to eval a stationary QB like worley with a weak O line. Dobbs' strength is his mobility. He is supposed to have an advantage when the line falters or the play needs an extra second or two to develop. I know he can pass deep because of the reports coming out of camp and practices. There is something different in the pressure of game time though. Ironically, i think his running improves when the lights are on compared to practice. Debord was supposedly helping a ton with Josh's offseason mechanics and fundamentals. Where is the evidence that it is helping?
His down field passing could use some work, but I don't remember people calling him out when he passed and then ran for a TD.
He was NOT the problem Saturday. The problem was on the sidelines.
