Josh Dobbs - NFL Draft thread (merged)

That's simply your opinion. There are no facts to support it. I told you guys for 2 years this would happen once Josh came before NFL talent evalutors.

His skill set is ELITE and made for pro football.

You are still wrong.

He's not a good college QB and will be an even worse NFL QB.

:eek:lol:very insightful.:good!:

I didn't think elaboration was needed when the body of work is this extensive.

I'm sure when he's drafted will be a good day for discussion and when he makes/doesn't make a roster too.
Then when he's finally cut will be another day of discussions about how he's too good for the NFL anyway.

So in other words, nobody. I'm not manipulating ****. You are trying to pretend that Dobbs is remotely considered a 2nd round draft pick this year.....he isn't and there isn't a halfway intelligent person that believes so.

You absolutely manipulated the argument, my dear. I responded to someone who called it "laughable", you came back with "likely". You're not particularly bright.

Nobody? How many directors of pro personnel do you think there are? How many contacts do you think each has? That's one person I've asked.

Again, use your question marks. You don't know anything at all. You can't ask anyone who does this for a living. I can ask a coach with the Raiders, you know where their GM went to school? I can ask a director of pro personnel and I can ask a guy who coached QBs in the NFL as well as college. You can ask........me, your new daddy.

you're right about that. why elaborate when every measurable statistic for a college qb says he was wholly different than your statement.

i guess you're another one of those purely "eye test" folks that think stats are for losers. it makes it so much harder to prove yourself right when your forced to use something more objective than your own opinion.

When he's cut "surprisingly" early, I'll comment about it.

But really, it's just an opinion. And I don't think a stats argument can change my mind when I've been watching him for years.

On this particular topic, yes it seems I was dead wrong.

i've watched him too, and i'm not saying he's the 2nd coming or anything.

but to say he's not a good college qb, is short sighted when you consider the whole picture offensively while at UT...

and no one knows what his NFL future holds. i'd just say 3 years ago, it never even occurred to me that he'd be on anyone's day 1 or 2 draft boards. if nothing else, he's at least done enough to put himself in that position.

but to say he's going to get cut surprisingly early is no different than D4h saying he's going to be elite.

i think there's probably a happy medium there in the middle, more realistically.

I think I'm right, but I recognize it as an opinion, unlike D4H who is a (barely) functioning Neaderthal.

ESPN’s Todd McShay was all aboard on Thursday morning, becoming the first major analyst to suggest the Tennessee quarterback could be selected in the first round of the upcoming draft.
“I also think Josh Dobbs from Tennessee is going to go early second round if he doesn’t snack into the late first,” McShay said during an appearance on the “Mike and Mike Show.”
Mel Kiper Jr. said last week on an ESPN conference call that Dobbs could go in the second or third round.
The more Dobbs appears before NFL personnel, and the closer they look, the more they seem to like him.

It will be mind blowing if it happens. Going into last season I thought he would be a 6th or 7th round project at best, and after the SCAR game I didn't expect him to even get drafted but he really turned it on late and had an unbelievable Senior Bowl.

You deserve every bit of praise and success in the world Josh. GBO

I'm in agreement with you on this being much higher than his play would indicate he should go, but the Dak effect is more influential on our society than Das EFX. Teams have become infatuated with thedobfather. Not having a QB coach makes teams believe he's got a lot more upside than many Tennessee fans seem to believe. Scripting his own pro day made NFL people get all hot and bothered. Hes played this part of the process flawlessly.

If there was no Romo injury, Dobbs goes in 5. Imo

I would be highly surprised if he went in the first but hopefully it does happen! Guys going in the first and second round help recruiting out tremendously. I'm excited to see what team josh goes to, i'm just really hoping he doesn't go to cleveland lol anywhere but cleveland.

I'll be the first to admit that even if he doesn't go in the 1st or 2nd and somehow gets picked up in the 3rd, he would have exponentially exceeded any prediction of mine and most heading into the end of this season. The fact that we are even here talking about him going anywhere before the 4th is a testament to him and how he has played this whole process.

Today Mcshay said he would go early second if he doesn't sneak into late 1

Take that for data

That's not data, that's opinion. That said, I hope McShay is right and Josh goes in the first or second round, would be great for both him and the program. Needs to go to the right organization regardless of when he goes....he needs the opportunity to sit, learn and develop for awhile imo.

Patriots in the first round. Would be epic.

I believe the team most likely to take Dobbs in the 1st round would be the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 30th overall pick. Remember Mike Tomlin was the only head coach at Josh's pro day and they apparently hit it off. And they are desperate for a QB given Roethlisberger's age and injury history.

As I reported earlier this week, the Los Angeles Chargers with the 38th overall pick overall in the 2nd round are prepared to take Dobbs. I guess the other teams in love with Dobbs have also heard this and are going to try and position themselves ahead of the Chargers if they want to get him. This might force Pittsburgh to just pull the trigger in the late 1st round if a bunch of teams are waiting in the early 2nd round for Josh.

I'm hoping for the best for Dobbs, but a part of me really doesn't want to see him go in the 1st Round. Seen too many QBs move up that high, then there's huge pressure to "throw them into the water" too soon, before they're ready. See Heath Shuler.

I'd much rather Dobbs get into a good situation regardless of what round he's drafted in. At least if it's the Steelers, though, there won't be pressure for him to start immediately with Roethlisberger there, so that's one of the few 1st round situations that might be good for him. Definitely don't want to see him go to a bad team, where he's going to have a terrible O-line, mediocre coaching, and likely throw a bunch of INTs, and get banged up.

typically i agree with you on this, especially for the prospects that just aren't unanimous 1st rounders.

but, if he were to go to the Steelers as suggested, it would definitely be with the mindset of developing him so he could compete with Landry Jones once Ben decides to retire, which could be w/in the next year or two.

that's the kind of situation that could really work out for him.
