Josh Dobbs (merged)

As they say, players know. They know who can play and who can't. Just check out these comments from Dobbs Steelers teammates: Steelers talk Joshua Dobbs as a future opponent

Dobbs teammates know he's gonna be great. They see what I see.

Remember when you completely ignored that Antonio Brown said Rudolph would be special.

Also, they say they want him as a teammate and praise him. For one, what exactly do you expect them to say? Two none of them say he’s going to the best of all time like you.

Nah. Some Steelers fans are actually smart and can see when greatness is staring them in the face.

Josh Dobbs is clearly better than Landry Jones and Mason Rudolph. Only a moron would choose those 2 stiffs over him. We'll find out in a few days whether the Steelers GM is a moron.

Get your excuses ready.

All 3 of those WRs were past their prime and so was Garner. Btw, nice underhanded shot at Garner, who was a damn good and productive NFL RB. Of course, I wouldn't expect anything less from a Georgia fan.
Underhanded shot? How the heck do you get that out of my post. I was a fan of the guys style because he was so effective out of the backfield. You really have to be stretching to call that an underhanded shot "Heck, Charlie Garner was a force for them receiving out of the backfield" .. I guess this is where I would normally want to go into a "Reading comprehension isn't your thing, I wouldn't expect anything less from a ... " type of statement but I will refrain because there are some really good people on here. As for the others, a Rice and Brown past their prime was still better than 90% of the WRs in the league that year.

Yeah Dawg, after I re-read it, I probably jumped to conclusions. I thought there was an "even" in there and there was not. So, my bad, sorry. Yeah, Rice and Brown were still very good at that age. Better than 90% of NFL WRs may be a stretch, but I get your point. I let my recent hate and jealousy of Georgia and their fans override my reading comprehension and took a shot at u. But, I can admit when I'm wrong. Once again, sorry

Josh Dobbs balling out against 3rd stringers, and the soon to be unemployed running vanilla defensive schemes, while fun to watch, is not indicative of his current capabilities as an starting or backup QB in the NFL.

You are blinded by your obsession, and the troll-hole that you've dug for yourself when it comes to Dobbs.

I will say, last night does solidify that Dobbs deserves to make a roster somewhere in the league. It won't be the Steelers' roster, but Dobbs won't be hanging out on a practice squad this year.

I agree. Of course that's a huge canyon between that and he'll be the best of all time, but I know you already knew that.

Dobbs did nothing but help himself last night. Of course, the competition angle showed as Rudolph came in and knocked out 100+ yards and two TD's in only 9 attempts. (Hell, the Panthers Kyle Allen went 69% for 250y and a TD)

I'll be honest (and I know I'm not alone here) and say if the Steelers weren't looking at a playoff run this season and worried that even a game or two with QB's that have never taken a real NFL snap is too great a liability then Landry would be cut and they'd just run with Dobbs and Rudolph. Unless they have an 11th hour "F it" moment and decide to gamble that seems awfully unlikely. I am sure the possibility of saying the other "F it" and keeping 4 QB's has been poked, prodded, squeezed and measured for plausible validity...that's going to be a tough call.

So at what point in the future will D4H's change his narrative from kicking the can down the road for when Dobbs will finally be great to saying that the NFL as a whole whiffed on the greatest player of all time and he'll just keep repeating all the things Dobbs would have done if the NFL wasn't so stupid. And to him, saying Dobbs would have done all of those things is the same as if Dobbs actually did them, and he'll claim he was right.

I mean props to Dobbs, he did what he needed to. Having said that, anyone could see this coming. He balls out in arguably the most meaningless game of the preseason and you have people saying he "proved" he should the #2. Lol...no he didn't. He proved he should be a #3 somewhere.

I agree. He may never start, but if he continues to improve his throwing mechanics, and learns to read NFL defenses, he should be able to find some success.

It's all good man. Like I said (and I can honestly say this about most fanbases .. except Auburn maybe), there are some really cool people on here. But I always did feel like they worked toward possession, protect the football and concentrate on moving the sticks in those days of the Raiders. The year the Bucs won the Super Bowl with Gruden at the helm, that was the best offense the Raiders had in the Gannon days. I was a little more surprised with your comment because I had huge respect for Garner and had him on a fantasy team two years in a row because the guy could do it all.

And yes, the 90% number might have been a stretch but those two were deadly together and if I remember correctly, they replaced Andre Rison with Jerry Rice and even an older Jerry Rice was certainly an upgrade to an older Andre Rison.

That's all of our points really. Is he good enough to be on a roster? Yes! Is he good enough to be a full-time starter? He has shown nothing to prove he is ready for that. Footwork is still an issue for him which leads to more mechanics issues. He tries to put too much umph into the ball which leads to further mechanics issues which then leads to accuracy issues. 25 yards and in he is pretty solid but you can't live off of that in the NFL. It's obvious D4H falls in love with the dual threat guys in college but that doesn't translate to the NFL. Watson has had to dial it back since coming into the league as has Cam Newton and Jameis Winston (who I never thought was a great example of a dual threat in college but he had the ability). If you are not a top notch passer, Dobbs is not, a starting QB spot may not be in your future.

So at what point in the future will D4H's change his narrative from kicking the can down the road for when Dobbs will finally be great to saying that the NFL as a whole whiffed on the greatest player of all time and he'll just keep repeating all the things Dobbs would have done if the NFL wasn't so stupid. Because Dobbs will probably never get a start in the NFL and may only get to come in on spot snaps here and there, this will be his battle cry from here on. Much like he tried to convince everyone that Jalen Hurd was the best back in CFB when he wasn't the best back in the SEC (Henry rushed for over 2200 yards in 2015), the best back in the SEC East or even his own team (Kamara was a better more complete back).

It's just funny to me how many in the FF are now experts that Dobbs "proved" he deserves the #2 spot. I get they are all looking through orange colored glasses and are biased, and I'll throw out that there could be some shocking development in the next 36 hours or so, but from a non-biased view, it's been pretty clear for weeks now that Jones is the #2 QB. And if Mike Tomlin wanted Dobbs as the #2 QB, he'd be the #2 QB.

They could get far better trade value for Jones due to his experience. They know Big Ben will get banged up and so they want the best game manager they can have knowing they still have Bell, Brown, JuJu, Bey, Connor and now Washington. Maybe even Hunter. That’s why they keep Jones unless they get a FANTASTIC offer for him

His best season was the year after Gruden left in 2002 .. otherwise, a guy with some of the best WRs in history (Rice, Brown, Rison) probably could have eclipsed 30 TDs at least once. Heck, Charlie Garner was a force for them receiving out of the backfield too but even with all of that, it took Gruden leaving for Gannon to go over 4k in yards.

By comparison, (Bucs fan here) Brad Johnson's numbers looked very much the same after Gruden started coaching him.

I'm not going to argue with you about this but you simply don't know what you're talking about. And its not like Gruden is a mini Belichick.

Thanks for sharing your opinion but the stats don't lie so it's just that .. an opinion.

You really should be on Facebook or Bleacher Report talking about football. Right, stats don't lie and for 4 year Gannon was the man in Oakland, not to mention a passing title and MVP. You're like these clowns that look at Namath and Unitas' stats and conclude they both sucked cause you know.... stats don't lie.

Well, as of 8:00p.m., no Vol has gotten cut, according to CBS Sports. Trevor Daniel won the Texans punting job, which is awesome. That punt he did inside the 1 yard line was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

Hoping that Dobbs gets cut from the Steelers. It will only mean a better situation for him somewhere else. He WILL be on a roster. But the Steelers went all in on Rudolph, and there's no way they're cutting him. And Landry Jones sucks, but he's safe and they know what they're getting with him.

Wouldn't surprise me if they cut Dobbs, or trade him. Just not sure they'd get anything out of him. I just wanna see him in a place where he is growing and where he'll eventually get a shot.

3800 yards was about his max with Gruden along with 28 TDs. His best season was certainly with Callahan but I always felt with the quality of WRs he had he would have eclipsed the 4k/30TD marks with ease.
Older Jerry Rice and Tim Brown? THAT quality? He was a major reason that those Raiders teams should have gone to 3 straight SB’s.

Maybe don’t utilize “even” as a crutch word?

Good news, didn't see too many names on today's cut list I recognized. Kony Ealy got bounced again.
