Josh Dobbs (merged)

Damn. Ya'll are really hung up on that? You do know I don't even consider going to Duke to be that big of a deal. If I even applied myself halfway in high school, I wouldn't have been wait listed at Harvard and Yale and would have gotten in easily. I got into Duke without even trying.
I doubt you could point Duke out on a map........with the location circled in crayon

The only time I trolled this site was that day I said I had given up on Dobbs before the Florida game. That was my only insincere take.

Everything else has been my genuine opinion.

With said, you guys will know soon enough that I was right all along about Dobbs.

So when you "trolled the site" about giving up on Dobbs, those statements were the only ones that were accurate about him. Great college player, not an NFL QB. At 6'3" with speed, he should have shifted over to WR. But you avoid the obvious, the obvious decision making issues, the obvious issues throwing deep outs, curls, back shoulder throws that are standard throws in the NFL.

No troll. I've been very consistent in saying Josh Dobbs will go down as the GREATEST player in NFL history. Just as the NHL changed the rules for Wayne Gretzky when it came to waiting to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, the NFL will do the same for Dobbs when his career is over.

He will leave a legacy in the NFL equivalent to Jordan in the NBA and Gretzky in the NHL.
So you're literally comparing a guy who has fought for his roster spot in year 2 and by all accounts will be on a different team probably fighting for a roster spot again in year 3 to two guys who were stars in year 1 in their respective sports. Yep, the power of troll has overtaken you.

A fourth-round draft pick out of Tennessee in 2017, Dobbs is expendable now that Mason Rudolph is onboard as Ben Roethlisberger's heir apparent and veteran Landry Jonesremains favored in the No. 2 role. After a disappointing preseason effort last year, Dobbs has faired better this August, generating a 101.9 passer rating on 31 attempts.

The list of teams in the market for quarterback depth would likely include the Panthers, Dolphins, Lions, Texans, Raiders and Broncos.

If there is any coach that could work wonders with Dobbs its Gruden.

Given Dobbs's lack of a QB coach in college, it's unlikely that anyone is going to get him to a higher level at this point in his career. He doesn't seem to have developed the base instincts for reading and reacting to defenses, partially due to the fact that he could rely on his legs to get him out of collapsed plays. It's possible that he's gone as far as he can, and has peaked in his abilities.

According to a report by ESPN reporter Jeremy Fowler, there is interest in not one but two Pittsburgh Steelers backup quarterbacks via trade. We’ve talked at length on here about the potential value of Josh Dobbs in a trade, but Fowler has added Landry Jones into the mix as well.
But the reality is the Steelers are in win-now mode and that means having a secure backup plan. there’s no way the front office would risk the final season with Le’Veon Bell in a Steelers uniform to a young quarterback as a backup plan.

REPORT: Josh Dobbs not the only Steelers quarterback drawing trade interest

I'm not sure I'd call Rudolph BR's "heir apparent" yet. To me he's in the same position as Dobbs last year, and he still have a lot of convincing to do. He very well could be in Dobb's curent position this time next year.

What QB has Gruden worked wonders with? He’s typically preferred game managing vets

That's what I don't get; many on this board keep saying that but I've seen little actual evidence. Seems like people watched his QB segments on ESPN and suddenly crowned him a QB guru.

This is true, and the fact is, he isn't exactly a coach many players have liked to play for (coming from a Bucs fan). He got a rep for QBs through the QB thing he did with ESPN but that wasn't exactly "taking one to the next level".

That's what I'm thining, his rep for being a QB "guru" is actually from his ESPN segments, not really so much from his actual working with QBs.

I hope Dobbs does get to play this year

Dobbs starting vs Jags would be greatest gift ever
For the stat geeks out there, cause I know if Josh's numbers were bad ya'll would post them, here are his stats thru 2 preseason games (really 3 quarters of action):

-21/31 (67.7% passing)
-283 yards
-13.5 yards per attempt
-3 TDs
-2 INTs
-101.95 passer rating

-7 rushes
-46 yards
-6.6 YPC

- Led 5 TD drives in 3 quarters of action (team high)

Not bad for a guy ya'll claim has no chance to make the team.
him not making the team is a far cry from your predictions

I wonder which are crazier and least likely hmm

He was still a pedestrian QB, just a game manager with a few veteran weapons around him.
That doesn’t fit with his Raiders career. He had some epic seasons with Gruden and one with Callahan.
