Sounds like
Yeah, but they would have to get in the portal before the deadline (yesterday) to even have the option of potentially transferring later. So, they could just be entering just in case.

That being said, JG’s post suggests that he expects the 5th year rule to go through. Plus, he didn’t enter the portal, so he won’t be going elsewhere for that 5th year.
Sounds as if we’ve got Gainey coming back, more than likely. He was lethal in the latter part of the season and really good the whole year.

^ Here's some real evidence from just a day ago, and unlike your conjecture it supports the unlikelyhood of players getting a 5th year.

Now, where is your evidence to the contrary?
What makes you think Gainey has special knowledge that the attorneys of these players obviously don't have?

"Troll" indeed......
Just reading the tea leaves brotherrr. Don’t call me shirley

No need to read tea leaves when we have actual cases being heard .
You could just try reading the article.

- A judge denied a preliminary injunction Tuesday sought by four college football players who had sued to gain an additional season of eligibility.

Judge Matthew Houston said the evidence was "not sufficient" while ruling from the bench following a three-hour hearing in North Carolina Business Court

The 5th year won’t be considered until the House case settlement is approved. The judge just gave the parties 14 days to agree on scholarship limit issues, which is the final hurdle to settle. That seems to be why the 5th year was kicked until summer to get House completed. It will continue to get discussed.

I based my comment on the idea that I wouldn’t think Gainey would do a video for tease purposes. I assumed from that video that he’s got some idea of how this is playing out, but who really knows for sure.
I don’t think anyone can say with any confidence what is going to happen, if it does get passed then yes, I think Gainey is a very likely candidate to return.

One thing I haven't seen discussed about the 5th year possibility...if it's granted and applies to this past year's seniors, many other teams will be getting great players back. Alabama could get Mark Sears back. Auburn may get Broome back. I don't know if Florida would get some dudes back, but maybe.

It may not be the best thing for Tennessee, given that some of the teams we'll be competing with for the SEC and Final 4 could get back better players than we get back.

Just a thought.

Edit: Nevermind on Sears...he was a 5th year.

just my POV, I’m ok with 5 total years of eligibility, but there should be an age limit. 25 year olds should not be playing intercollegiate sports. Would really prefer no 24 yr olds but I would concede that. Once you hit that age you become ineligible, even if mid season.

Timing is a huge factor, a player has to be willing to pass on any NBA summer league, g-league contracts, draft, euro deals, coaching offers etc to basically just sit idle, while also continuing to be in school, until possibly July or August. How many are willing to do this?

Be kind of funny if there’s a team still out there with only like 4-5 kids left on a roster and then benefit from the rule getting approved and end up with like 4-5 seniors returning to college for an extra season.

Make the sweet 16.

Actually it just shows that the judge didn’t think the level of evidence provided was cause for a temporary injunction. Kicked the can down the road

Gainey just posted a tic toc saying 5th year??? Can he?

I was wondering if he could come back and thought he could, but heard nothing about it after the season. This would be bigger than JJ and Vescovi returning IMO. Albeit having two guys with on court seniority each year is probably better than one from a leadership perspective.

If he improved his game once again as he has all year, he could be a star and increase his draft stock IMO. Not to mention he that glue the team is so used to having.

It’s imperative to have an older player like that that you can trust, knows the system, helps the younger players know where to he and when such as a QB, etc. Regardless of level of returning talent, that has benefited us tremendously the last couple of years and has everything to do with our teams making it to the E8.

Probably some redundancy here, but fwiw

You can’t put age limits on it. You have those one-off athletes that go serve in the military or maybe they decide they go do something else with their life and don’t enroll into college until their mid-20s. You remember Brandon Weeden at Oklahoma State? He pursued a baseball career after he was a 2nd round pick out of high school. You can’t prevent someone from participating in athletics at a university if they were never enrolled at one prior.
