John Adams

After most of the real journalists and sports writers have been laid off from the Knoxville News Sentinel, how does this guy still have a job?

Asking for a friend.

I think there is a closet in his house filled with well worn knee pads and empty mouthwash bottles.

That's BS. Not everything he writes I agree with BUT he speaks the truth a lot of the times. You just don't want to read/hear we suck but I've got news your you. We have sucked for the past decade except for two seasons (which we didn't even beat a SECw team in those two seasons). Take your orange shades off.

And we would suck a helluva lot less if his ass went the Hell back to Texas or Louisiana. I am willing to hear the truth, just not from that mealy mouthed POS. You are one of the people reading him and keeping him here, not me. And that is what I call BS. Do us all a favor and go play in traffic.

It would seem like the Snooze Sentinel would see the cost savings in hiring a 30-year-old jounalist instead of a guy who makes 3x as much to write rubbish.

So from what I'm reading here, if John Adams retires it will solve all of UTK's football problems. Roger that, I'll keep an eye out

No, it would not solve any of the problems, but it would allow the paper to put a more objective guy in the lead dog spot and one that might earn the respect of players and coaches and be able to gain access to more comprehensive fact sets they could spin into their work and gain respect and readership from the community. He is an old guy who determined his methods would employ the snarky, combative, and sensational modes we get to experience with the Jim Romes and even the Paul Finebaums of the sports journalism world. I won't listen to them either. I will never trust them or those like in kind. I recognize they are free to produce whatever they want whenever they want. But I find it odd that the paper is not more interested in garnering a wider range of respect within the community with their more senior positions. We older guys got to read about a lot bad things accurately and completely covered by guys named Siler, West, and Byrd among others and they did not have to stoop to methods that not only were not welcomed, but not accepted by the school or large portions (maybe majority) of the paying readership.

Well his schtick has simply gotten old. Every article is sarcastic and just another dig at the Vols. I used to enjoy the brutal honesty; however he has pushed way past his approach of the early 1990s.
I don't really know what else he can say. Tennessee Football is 67-70 (28-60) since 2008 and has not finished a year ranked in the top 10 since 2001. For all intents and purposes, it is the worst 10+ year period in the history of the program, which dates back to 1891.

These boards will pretty much agree with everything he says, yet hate him. He write for the KNS, not a PR firm doing work on behalf of the University (although the KNS can fulfill that role if need be). He's paid to write his opinions in the newspaper and that's what he does.

So are you saying you really don't care for him that much? ;)

He's still employed because people read his columns. Want him fired? Don't read his columns and let KNS know that you won't read them.

Well, thanks to the OP, I will now read JA every day just to see how bad he really sucks.

Never heard of him before so I just looked up his past 5 articles and they sounded fairly positive about UT. Talked about how men’s basketball rise could possibly be a permanent thing and how the lack of UT players being drafted by the NFL could be a good thing since it shows we haven’t lost much if anything in talent going into next year and should be better. He didn’t say we would beat Bama next year so maybe that is why some people don’t like him.
You've never heard of him but you're qualified to make generalizations about people who have heard this crap stain's "journalism" for years. Most people don't hate him BC he's objective or not always a ray of sunshine. Adams derives a little too much enjoyment in being a douche and crapping on Tennessee football any chance he gets.

I would love to hear how long some of you who think Adams is a quality journalist have been following Tennessee football.

He thinks he’s funny or witty, but he isn’t really either one. I thought a few years back when he wrote an article telling fans to not go to the game was absolutely horrible. If you don’t want to support the coaches or think the opponent is garbage that’s one thing, but the guys on the team and people behind the scenes deserve better than that from the local media.

If there really is such a thing as global warming, I believe John Adams is the cause. I hate him more than Taylor Swift's music. And that is a truckload of hate.

Why you gotta be so mean?

You just named three of my favorites. Thanks for the reminder of the good days.

Speaking of Volwire, how is it Dan is allowed to keep posting his articles here? Doesn't that violate the new guidelines about spamming? I think it's pretty crappy he's using freak and volnation to solicit.
That's why I've made it a personal mission to address his bs each thread he starts.

John Boy is an LSU fan. He loves to pour salt in the wounds of Tennessee fans, players and the university. Basically he is a POS with an IQ of a dog turd.

GO VOLS!!!!
So why in the world would you disparage dog scat in that way?

I've never understood the mentality that people who write for the local paper have to be cheerleaders for the program or they are vilified. Adams does a good job writing for the most part and is pretty good on the radio as well.
Bullcrap

0h, I let them know, and his editor just whined back a weaselly "well Mr. Adam's has a right to his opinion, too.

What we need is an actual competing newspaper.

Let's pick apart your retort one by one.

I have no idea why you brought up working for KNS as no one disputes these are his opinions and he is allowed and supposed to write them. Regardless point taken, but no difference in this discussion.

Now time for another item you started with, we suck. Not as bad in the 2000s as you make it out to be. Oh well let's agree the mood is bad, sour from the losing, so there will be more negative opinions written.

Some people on this board agree with what he says. It is a message board, so we have X members and X opinions and well people aren't agree. So you can't lump the entire board together. Bad argument.

By the way, it is possible to agree with someone and still hate them. Someone could have done something to you or you don't like their behavior towards you. For that very reason is why we are having this conversation and his attitude is the primary problem. He is snarky, sarcastic and he is always taking shots at the teams and fans while delivering the bad news. He gets as close to Chris Fowler as he can while not being so obvious he has crossed the line. This is the point of why people are so done with him. It is who he is and how he acts towards others. To say he is right is to miss the entire point being made. Being right does not make it Ok. Doesn't make it correct in most situations.
