JJ Peterson ?

I didn't say that. I SAID we were all engrossed in him qualifying. And there is no irony here. What there is; is people posting negatives about every thread. Knuckleheads. Maybe they wouldn't be so Trite if they could post something worthwhile of their own. The IRONY is how VN can be so Combative when we are SUPPOSED to be linked together with one cause. There's your Irony. And posters can SAY they are not being combative, but the Proof is in the Dialogue .
Says the poster being combative. You defined that word well.

How is the kid a disappointment? He struggled with grades and came in out of shape, which a lot of kids don’t come in in football shape. Hardly makes him a disappointment. Let’s see what he does on the field before we start throwing labels out there. How about that?

Most highly rated kids going to premier P5 programs show up in the best shape of their life. They have a deep competitive drive and desire to be the best. They know the only way to get on the field as a freshman is to impress from day 1 in camp.
Turns out we aren’t a premier P5 program since JJ came in with the attitude that the roster is garbage (Pruitt told the nation that before halftime of the Bama game) and he would be a starter just by showing up.

This is part of the culture that Pruitt has to change. Bama buries 5* recruits on the depth chart and kicks them off the team if they don’t give 100% every day.

Fair enough.. let me elaborate a bit. I feel hes been a disappointment since day once because it seems we've been playing this whole waiting game since he committed. It started with him not passing school and us not having an answer for a while on when he'd get here. Then he was slow and kinda out of shape. Now we have younger guys who have arrived on campus and kinda just overshadowed JJ. Ill say for one i feel the crouch hype has made him irrelevant tbh. So im not disappointed with his football skills or what he could bring to the field in the future... just all the "baggage" thats followed. These posts titles are the only thing that keeps people thinking about him. I would love to see his potential pan out for us one day
He is setting himself up for a transfer situation down the line. I want him to step it up now and be a VFL we are proud of.

Alabama CT has 10 Linebackers on the active NFL rosters across the league. Not to mention guys from the past draft in 2019. To be them...we have to be loaded like them. Which means we need 8 future NFL
LBs on our roster any given year. Right?

We signed 3 tremendous prospects at LB. All of them physically ready to compete next year (Even Crouch). But we run 3 or 4 lbs all game long in any set. We have Bituli and Taylor. Two big powerful explosive guys. That brings us to 5. All JJ has to do is be the 6th guy and he's going to get plenty of chances to develop. Special teams...maybe even start in some defensive packages like Shannon Ried.

JJ, Crouch, Henry T, and Harrison all have 4 years to do something. Let's watch them grow together... They will all make each other better. Peterson is not even close to being a bust.

That's right don't give a sh-t what anyone else on here thinks, that is unless they agree with you. Maybe he did miss your point, but why not let it go at that?

BECAUSE I'm tired of these morons who have nothing better to do than counter everything that is posted. My BS toleration meter is maxed out. Some people have nothing but opinions. I posted facts. Some people on here just HATE for anyone to post a thread. WTH is that about? I'm not in a competition here; I just post info that every fan might not be privy to. And evidently that bothers some that weren't.

I think with the proper coaching he can be a good player for us. Time will tell. I mean, even guys like Leonard Little took some time. I’m optimistic he can develop into a sec LB.

Leonard Little should have never been moved to LB from DE. One of the dumbest coaching decisions of the Fulmer era. Little was a beast immediately as a DE.

FYP.

Player success or failure is 100% independent of fan expectation.
While I agree with your correction the original statement still holds true. The fan expectations also play a role in the top quick to judge failure aspect. I still think the kid can be a player for UT. He’s a redshirt freshman and has a long time to improve.

I’ve been watching a ton of the olds vols on you tube and man, those 2000-2005 teams were loaded. Littles first year I thought was all special teams though. I could be wrong and I’ll look it up. I remember the first time I noticed him on a kickoff just blowing up the return man. And I do remember the move to LB was not a great decision at least from memory.

He came to UT out of JUCO in '95 and was a terror. He damn near decapitated Bama's QB. He was so fast off the snap. He looked lean but was strong as Hell with single digit % body fat. Basically he was pure muscle with speed and agility.

Yeah I looked it up. He came in ready to play. Not a good example for JJ comparison at all. Dude was a one of a kind player. My bad. Instill hold hope JJ will be able to contribute though. I mean, the alternative sucks for us. So why not hope the kid can be a player. Anyway, back to summertime activities. The pool and a few beers

These JJ threads are just plainn stupid.
I'm sorry! The kid has not even been on campus for 11 months...

Bituli and Kongbo and Taylor were at LB last year. Along with veteran Kirkland.
We didn't need him at LB like we did Taylor and Thompson at CB.

Let him acclimate to the college expectations WHICH has been changing the past 18 months since Pruitt has arrived.

.

What are you even talking about? I think you’re confused. He got here weeks into the season and made it on kickoff team later in the year? Went awol and didn’t participate in the spring.. but yet I’m pulling stuff out my rectum Lmao
He didn’t get here “weeks into the season”....he got to campus a day or 2 before the first game of the season vs WVa, and he was woefully out of shape. So, he didn’t handle his business off the field academically to get himself eligible on time so he could join his team on time, and when he got here it was clear that he didn’t take it seriously because of his poor physical condition. Then he gets his 4 redshirt games in for good measure, and contributed absolutely nothing to the team despite being the biggest recruit in the class. And finally, he wasn’t ready to compete in spring practice as Pruitt mentioned he was “banged up” literally after the first practice in shorts.

So, while you may be correct in saying that he might turn it all around and be a huge contributor this year, given the set of circumstances I just laid out, is it any possible wonder why people are negatively speculating on the kid, especially with the absence of any news/info on how he’s progressing?

This team badly needs him to step up and live up to the billing. I hope he finally has his mind and heart right and will be the player we all hoped he’d be when he committed.

Your answer does not dignify a response.

I hope he does......as well as Greg Emerson.

Updated roster lists him at 6-2/233, which is up five pounds from the spring but shouldn’t be a concern. I haven’t heard anything about him still be out of shape. He was hampered by his shoulder in the spring and needs to show he can stay on the practice field, so it’s going to be an important preseason camp for his development.
