BREAKING NEWS: Jimmy Carter celebrates 99th birthday by attending annual Peanut Festival in Georgia hometown with wife Rosalynn SEVEN MONTHS after he went into hospice care

Former President Jimmy Carter celebrated his 99th birthday by making his first public appearance since he entered hospice care seven months ago.

Carter, 98, was met with raucous applause as he made his way to the Plains Peanut Festival in Georgia on Saturday, and was seen being driven down the flag-lined street in a black SUV alongside former First Lady Rosalynn Carter.

The longest living president in US history entered hospice care in February, announcing that he 'decided to spend his remaining time at home with his family and receive hospice care' as he ceased medical intervention.

Three months later, it was revealed that Rosalynn, 96, had dementia.

Footage of Carter being driven through the festival was posted on X - formerly Twitter - which quickly garnered warm responses from supporters of the aging president.

His 76-year marriage to Rosalynn also stands as the longest between any president and first lady in US history.

I don’t care about his politics. He seems to be a genuinely good person throughout his life.

Former President Donald Trump took to his TRUTH Social account Sunday to pay an earnest tribute to former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, whom he called a 'great humanitarian.'

The ex-First Lady married husband Jimmy on July 7, 1946, just 23 days before Trump, 77, was born.

'Melania and I join all Americans in mourning the loss of Rosalynn Carter. She was a devoted First Lady, a great humanitarian, a champion for mental health, and a beloved wife to her husband for 77 years, President Carter,' Trump wrote.

'Over a life spanning nearly a century, Rosalynn Carter earned the admiration and gratitude of our entire nation. How Jimmy Carter knew he was going to marry Rosalynn after their First Date At The Movies in 1945: Inside the 77-year marriage between soulmates who met when they were BABIES and endured everything together

A decades-long love story has come to an end after Rosalynn, the wife of former U.S. president James 'Jimmy' Earl Carter Jr, died at the age of 96.

The longest-married couple in U.S. presidential history, they met when Jimmy was just three years old and Rosalynn was a newborn, and celebrated their 77nd wedding anniversary on July 7, 2023.

Jimmy and Rosalynn shared a lifetime together and their romance stood the test of time, as well as the challenges of Navy deployments, a presidential campaign and his subsequent time in office.

Post-presidency, Jimmy was utterly devoted to his wife.

They pursued humanitarian projects together, helping construct or renovate more than 4,300 affordable homes across the world - one of the greatest charitable achievements of any past president.

The couple first dated in 1945. The 20-year-old Jimmy was attending the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, and stole a kiss from Rosalynn on their first date. He later told his mother he wanted to marry her.
