Jerry Colquitt critical of Dooley on starting Worley

After reading his comments I wouldnt allow him in the Athletic Dept or in Neyland Stadium if I were Hart. Why is a time of emotional turmoil does an insignificant ex-player feel the need to cause further strife and division?

I agree. Lost a lot of respect for him after reading his blog.

I wasn't bothered by his comments because he isn't even in the grid of top 1000 players in UT history. Who cares what he says. Dooleys decision is neither right or wrong ATP. It's a choice that hasn't even been tested yet. Funny thing is if Worley goes out there and does well then I assume this ******* will have plenty of crow sent his way. Here's to hoping Worley plays phenomenal and the Vols prove a former washed up career back qb wrong.

I honestly don't see how anyone can defend playing Simms. Yes, he tries hard. This isn't Pop Warner, he is AWFUL. If you can't see how terrible he is as a QB, and how he gives your team ZERO chance to ever win a conference game, there is something mentally wrong with you.

I don't blame the guy for speaking his opinion, it's just that his opinion is completely flawed and ignorant.

I could care less what Jerry Colquitt or Erik Ainge thinks about any subject at all.

I can't decide if people are serious or not when referencing Jerry Colquitt to the kicking Colquitts? If they are serious, are these the same people that constantly talk about UT's history and heritage? I hope not.

Regardless, I had a few classed with Jerry at UT and that was just horrible to see what happened to him 7 plays into the season. I remember sitting in the Rose Bowl that day watching it unfold.

If this is true, then I disagree with him. I think you have put your team into position to win. UT can still go 7-5 (I believe) this year...but not with Simms as the QB.

When you sign the line to go to a university to play football for a free schollie, you play when they tell you to play. If you want to man up, you do your very best for your team, family, fans, friends, and for yourself. JW has been fully committed even before the first day he walked on the campus - VFL. It's his time and all of the rest of the talk is background noise that don't mean anything at all.

Colquitt pulled his time as a backup.

Finally, when he got the start, one play and his senior season was over.

His college career nor the NFL worked out the way he would have preferred.

Now, he's about to see a true freshman have a opportunity that he didn't get until his senior season.

He's envious and can't let go of what might have been. (IMHO)

I have said from the second Worley came in the game that it was the wrong decision. I think we should have just cut our losses and continued building for the future. It's not like he should be or is going to be fired based on what happens this year. Next year is the first year the W-L record really matters.

Still waiting for you to cite the guarantee that Worley received about being a starter at UT... the kid has a shot now to carve out his place. That is the absolute BEST he could ask for at this point. Expectations are fairly low. The opportunity is very good to either establish himself as Bray's 2nd or else to put himself directly in competition for the starting job.

He wouldn't be the guy you would ever want starting if he didn't relish this opportunity.

having to start a freshman qb 2 years in a row is a testament to the unusual place UT football is right now.....mr. c's criticism is directed to the wrong coach...

The best player plays. it's not a hard ****ing concept. If you don't want to go in for this type of situation and try to get your team a W, i don't want you in a couple years down the road when the situation is better. Man up and just play.

*i know Worley didn't say any of this, i am just stating the way i feel on the situation.

All that combined will give us a much better chance to get a win IN THE SWAMP in 2013 as opposed to that game being Worley's first start in the SEC.

I won't go into great detail on how big that game will be. It is obvious. We should be coming off a solid 2012 season and that game will play a big part in sustaining the resurgence of Tennessee football.

Another great post... I'm impressed.

Did you just compliment yourself on your own post? Or did I miss something?

He feels sorry for Worley? The kid is getting a chance to play QB for the University of Tennessee. Yea, I feel real sorry him. <sarcasm>

Random post not related to thread but does not deserve a new thread: I obviously know the Dooley pants have been out for a while but have recently been hearing respect from KY fans and some true Alabama fans (e.g. ones born in AL or went to school there and live here) for the pants. Figured it would remind KY fans of Ray Mears (and Pearl's) blazer and they would hate them. Random thought. And yes, I want them to respect the coach because we beat them (Alabama Fans) and are competitive more than the pants. Sorry for the interruption. Just been hearing about those pants all day. And for some other crazy threads, KY fans would still kill to have Worley, Simms, or Bray with his right hand tied behind his back in a cast with a blindfold on up here. Even after the Jacksonville State game.

JERRY,

Derek Dooley is not Phil Fulmer. he will not play a senior just because he is a senior. I know you will probably find this hard to relate to because you got your turn over Todd Helton although Helton was probably the better QB.

Dooley has said repeatedly that "no one is going to feel sorry for him" so i don't think he is looking for anyone to blame a lose on. Matt Simms seems to be a tough kid but is just not a quarterback that can lead this extremely young team to success.

As you said, Tennessee is sure to lose (thanks for the faith there buddy) and that may be true, but Justin Worley will not be blamed for the lose. He will be but yet another kid on a team of 18 and 19 year olds that are learning to play in the SEC.

Thanks for your support, oh yeah, that is right you you are not supporting the Vols. SO SHUT THE HELL UP AND GO AWAY!

who says worley can't redshirt next year? and if bray leaves after junior season...well worley gets 2 years. JC...think.

probably the first time I've ever seen that

Here's what this move does for Worley. He gets to start at QB his Freshman year in the biggest game of the year. (biggest because everytime the Vols get a realistic chance of beating a ranked team - Florida, Georgia, SC it becomes the biggest game of the year.) If he performs well he's elevated to competition for starting job next spring. Don't think that was real a possibility coming off a redshirt year. Finally - damn its FUN TO PLAY FOOTBALL and not so much fun riding the bench. I'm betting Justin is amped!

At some point the worm has got to turn for CDD. Lsu and NC last year; JJ, Lathers, Hunter and Bray this year.

And it sets up potentially as a helluva story - untested frosh qb beats in-state school that ignored his recruitment...achieves signature win for head coach who went out on a huge limb to give him the chance.

Oh, but Jerry Colquitt says UT can't win Saturday. So never mind, then.

These were the former vol qb's comments on the Basilio website:

http://tonybasilio.com/index.php?page=tony

"Justin Worley – I feel bad for this kid. Why? Because he like many others are victims of those who coach them or recruit them. Its stories like these that don’t get enough attention in my opinion. Unfortunately, he will be unfairly blamed for losing Saturday, which looks inevitable. What will he think of the truth of his coach’s words (Derek Dooley) that he promised he’d look after him like a son when he recruited him? An action like this is why nothing and I mean nothing shocks me about coaches in college. How can you stick him in the game for mop up duty backed up against Alabama in a beat down if he has a bright future? Coach Dooley are you going to get that year back? Are you going to play Worley in significant parts of games in 2012 when the opportunities arise like Coach Spurrier played Doug Johnson sporadically with Danny Wuerrfel? If Worley CAN play, you better because what happened to him Saturday is just bad and purely knee jerk reacting. Welcome to college football my fellow Vol! Whatever the outcome, Mr. Worley, I will always side with you, Simms and Bray and the guys in uniform when a coach uses players as scapegoats for lack of preparation, in-game adjustments and lack of foresight as reason to deny you the opportunity to have two years to start for this university. " goes on to say:

"Da’Rick said on twitter Justin Worley looked better in practice than he anticipated he would, sounds bad but can you expound? Do you have something personal against Mr. Worley that would make you actually start him against this front four? "

 It's one thing to be critical but this sounds like some personal beef Colquitt has w/ CDD... I always felt sympathy for Colquitt after his injury in '94 but now he's showing a real lack of class!

UT can redshirt Worley next season like they did with Travis Stephens.

One thing we DO know Jerry is doing these days....NOT THINKING BEFORE RANTING....I found very little in that spewing that I could make plausible. Of course are we for certain he said all this????
