Jerry Colquitt critical of Dooley on starting Worley

Why doesn't Jerry ask Worley if he'd rather be starting against SC or riding the pine as a 3rd string qb.
Scapegoat? He's a fool. Worley won't be the scapegoat due to expectations. 5th year sr Simms definitely would have been, had he kept his job and led us to a loss.
The lack of common sense in people never ceases to amaze.

Who gives a rats ass what any member of the colquitt family has to say about a coaching decision coach Dooley has made to improve our chances of winning Saturday. Shouldn't jerry be more worried about paying for more AA classes for britton

For the love of God people! IT IS NOT THE SAME COLQUITT FAMILY! Britton, Dustin, et al are the punting Colquitt's (ps...they are white). Jerry Colquitt was the back up to Heath Shuler and Andy Kelly during his career (oh, and he is African American!).

Get your facts straight...or at least read the 6 or 7 previous posts correcting the other people that made the same mistake!

Drivel of the highest order, and a great summary of what Basillio has recently become as well.

Worley came to UT to play football. If not he should have gone to Wofford or UT Chatt.
Well said. Can't believe a guy that played is thinking like that.

Not the kicker. This is Jerry Colquitt. He was going to be the starter for the 1994 season. Got hurt on the first play from scrimmage against UCLA.

And it sounds like he still hasn't gotten over it. He needs to go complain to his old coach and not bash Dooley.

"Justin Worley – I feel bad for this kid. Why? Because he like many others are victims of those who coach them or recruit them. Its stories like these that don’t get enough attention in my opinion. Unfortunately, he will be unfairly blamed for losing Saturday, which looks inevitable. What will he think of the truth of his coach’s words (Derek Dooley) that he promised he’d look after him like a son when he recruited him? An action like this is why nothing and I mean nothing shocks me about coaches in college. How can you stick him in the game for mop up duty backed up against Alabama in a beat down if he has a bright future? Coach Dooley are you going to get that year back? Are you going to play Worley in significant parts of games in 2012 when the opportunities arise like Coach Spurrier played Doug Johnson sporadically with Danny Wuerrfel? If Worley CAN play, you better because what happened to him Saturday is just bad and purely knee jerk reacting. Welcome to college football my fellow Vol! Whatever the outcome, Mr. Worley, I will always side with you, Simms and Bray and the guys in uniform when a coach uses players as scapegoats for lack of preparation, in-game adjustments and lack of foresight as reason to deny you the opportunity to have two years to start for this university.

I think he pretty well explained why he felt this way. You may disagree with it, but that doesn't mean he's necessarily wrong. Why don't you go ask Worley if he thinks he is glad he gave up one of his years as the starter just so he can start two games (maybe as many as 4 depending on what happens with Bray) in an already lost season?

Not every alumni will be on Dooley's side Just like some didn't like Kiffin and some didn't like Fulmer. It happens and we nor the coaches should worry one second about it. If they really love UT then they will still support it even when they don't agree. If they don't well.....TOO BAD!!

Wonder why Jerry is not in favor of starting the player who gives us the best chance to win. I can't see why that's a bad thing

Because that's not the way it was done during his time here.. Come on you should know that.

Wow.

Where does he get that Worley will be "unfairly blamed". Where does he get that we have lost? Has he already seen the game, heard the coaches/players/media/fans remarks after the game? Only way Worley gets ANY blame is if he throws multiple pick sixes while our defense holds them scoreless....

A former back-up QB and alumni bashing a current head coaches' decision to start a current back-up QB is quite atypical. Our current option isn't producing, so why in hell isn't this move not validated, Jerry?!??

This is just another cynical douche, gripping onto a cup of anti-Doolism, that isn't holding any water.

Yet...

"...losing Saturday, which looks inevitable..."

I don't think I've heard even the first radio personality or tv analyst describe this game as an inevitable loss for us...quite the opposite, actually. Thanks for your support, Jerry.

While you're asking Worley, let's ask Ben Martin, Malik Jackson, Tauren Poole, Austin Johnson, and the rest of the team what they think about the move.

1. The season is not lost

2. He can redshirt next year

3. you play to win the game (Herm Edwards voice)
