Jerry Colquitt critical of Dooley on starting Worley

Jerry is probably still pissed that Manning got the nod that year and that overshadowed him getting any media love for the rest of his career. lol

If DD wanted a scapegoat it seems like he'd keep playing Simms. :dunno:

Yeah this makes no sense. Of all the scapegoats:

1. Simms
2. Injuries
3. Youth
4. Experience

Why the heck would he choose a Freshman QB?

That is beyond dumb.

Colquitt pulled his time as a backup.

Finally, when he got the start, one play and his senior season was over.

His college career nor the NFL worked out the way he would have preferred.

Now, he's about to see a true freshman have a opportunity that he didn't get until his senior season.

He's envious and can't let go of what might have been. (IMHO)

I think he is saying it would be better for Worley to have a full year to develop and a guarantee of 2 years as a starter after Bray leaves. That would be what he may have been promised when he was recruited.

If I recall correctly, Colquitt did not redshirt and only got his opportunity to start when Heath Shuler left. After he got injured in that first drive of his first game as the starter he didn't have another year of eligibility left and the NCAA would not give him a medical redshirt. What he won't admit is even if they had given him the additional year, he would most likely been Peyton's back-up just like he was Shuler's.

It appears he thinks that the commitment to the player is more important than the commitment to the team regardless of the circumstances. This indicates he still holds a grudge over Fulmer not fully supporting his NCAA waiver. He may also have a grudge against CDD if he didn't get an opportunity to interview for one of the assistant coaching positions.

I just don't even know how to respond to that, and I would be shocked if Worley and his family were anything less than completely stoked.

You take your opportunities when they come. No one knows what's going to happen 2 years from now when Bray leaves. Hell, Worley may get recruited over next year. He might get injured in fall practice... Never know.

Do people not know you can RS as a Sophomore. If Worley shows promise and Bray comes back healthy, Worley can sit on the bench next year unless Bray is injured or what not. He can earn a RS that way.

I think giving Worley some experience now is good. If Bray has a solid year next year he could be gone and Bray will have all the PT next year. Getting Worley some game experience now, could be good 2 years down the road.

Drivel of the highest order, and a great summary of what Basillio has recently become as well.

Worley came to UT to play football. If not he should have gone to Wofford or UT Chatt.

Does he not realize that this is really going to help both Bray and Worley? It's called competition, and it will push both of them to be better, imo.

That is pathetic. It's always important when reading people opinion to disregard agenda driven opinions. That was obviously heavily agenda driven. Its ridiculous. Especially considering Worley is starting, which should have been obvious to Mr. Colquitt as soon as they put him in the Alabama game.

EXACTLY. Ok if he didn't agree w/ the move it's okay to say so and move on, but to spew out garbage like : "What will he think of the truth of his coach’s words (Derek Dooley) that he promised he’d look after him like a son when he recruited him? An action like this is why nothing and I mean nothing shocks me about coaches in college. " To hear that from a former Vol just makes me

I had dinner with Jerry just the other night and had no idea he even played at Tennessee until he showed me his snapshot of Fulmer he carried with him.

I said "Jerry!! So it was you that Fulmer started over 18 year oldPeyton Manning in 1994? Wow,you must have been the QB that gave us the best chance to win, huh?"

He answered ,"No, I was a 5th year senior who earned my spot at the starting job by holding a clipboard for Heath Shuler"

note:THE ABOVE WAS A REENACTMENT OF SOMETHING THAT NEVER HAPPENED
