So the lack of being able to get hired by anyone else despite being clearing LOOKING for work shouldn't be a problem?
I believe it is. I showed he WANTS to work but no one will hire him. How is that a decent risk?
I'll ask you this, if Jeff Fisher wants to coach football, college football, the Vandy job was just open..... he lives in the area...... and I don't recall his name being leaked, mentioned, or anything.Absolutely no way to know that. College and pro are two very, very different animals.

Wonder why? He'd be a "splash hire" in Nashville.
In NASHVILLE? He's forgotten in Nashville? Just think about that.No idea. Probably because it’s Vandy. Fisher might not have enough profile to have his pick of the litter anymore, but he’s had enough success at the highest level to still be picky when he wants to be.
To be fair, he did get a look from Vandy, apparently. He or they passed, if this was true. Edit: looks like the interest was one sided. He wanted to talk but it seems he wasn't a serious consideration. No idea. Probably because it’s Vandy. They truly didn't want to coach. Here's Fisher from 2017. Edit: Had to check to be sure, both Brown and Meyer had stints at ESPN during their gap. I've searched the net for what Jeff Fisher has been doing: nothing, but promoting himself for various jobs occasionally. No TV, no radio, nothing.Mack Brown had a 5 year gap, Urban had a gap between Florida and Ohio State.

I get picky. Urban Meyer can be picky. Jeff Fisher has had no job, not a Fox gig, not a local radio/TV gig doing color for the Titans for anyone...... NOTHING. If you want to keep a profile, that's not how it is done.
Why is it so hard to see that he's done? Evidence points to: nobody else wants to hire him to do ANYTHING in football for the last 4 years DESPITE him trying to self promote. Is it wrong to apply simple business practices to hiring?
His best success: 20 years ago.The idea of him being “done” is just perception. I don’t know why he isn’t doing tv, radio, or commentary, maybe he’s just not interested in those things. None of that has any effect on whether or not he can still coach. 62 is not that old, and he hasn’t even been out of the game that long.
Maybe the game has passed him by, I don’t know. What I do know is that the success he’s had at the highest level of the sport makes for a more impressive resume than any coach this program has hired since Majors, and possibly ever.
That doesn’t mean he would be a home run hire or even work out at UT, but I stand by my original statement that UT could do (and has done) far, far worse.
He is a below average HC who rode the coattails of Steve McNair and Eddie George. He is terrible.
His best success: 20 years ago.
His last success: 12 years ago.
By this measure, we SHOULD rehire Phil Fulmer to coach. We KNOW he can coach college. We KNOW he can recruit in college.
Obviously, no..... we shouldn't. Phil's time has passed. So has Jeff Fisher's. That's WHY no one has hired him.
This is a good look at Fisher. He DID do things well in the NFL for several years and had great success doing them, but the game went by him. He DOES have a good football mind, well, for how football was played in the decade from 1998-2008. That's not a knock on Fisher but the game changes.Folks criticize his NFL HC record while failing to realize that above .500 in the NFL is pretty impressive.
I'm not a fan of bringing in Fisher because I want someone younger and more relatable to the players. Also, Fisher's philosphy has always been to play great defense and run the ball, which isn't really conducive to today's style of football, either in college or the NFL.

He's not been a factor in football because his kind of football doesn't win anymore. Saban, who freaking LIVED defense for years (still has great defenses,) has even said: Offense wins.
Fisher and modern football offense. That failure to adapt cost him his career.
My thought here is the Vandy job is not one that he would want? Perhaps he sees Vandy as an uphill climb to make competitive due to resources, facilities, commitment....whereas he knows UT has all that and really is set up for success--something that we all say here every day of the week.....I'll ask you this, if Jeff Fisher wants to coach football, college football, the Vandy job was just open..... he lives in the area...... and I don't recall his name being leaked, mentioned, or anything.

All I know is that he's consistently said he wants to coach and no one, be it the AAF, XFL, NFL, or a college, has taken him.My thought here is the Vandy job is not one that he would want? Kinda sounds like what Pruitt would only have to do. As a first time A-personality HC, he has not done well delegating. Or, hasn't adequately claimed the reigns of his territory and demanded the freedom to do that. Either he tried to control too much, which is ironic considering his mentor is the master delegator. Or, he was restricted and handled. The question would be could he hire a good staff. If he can mange the team really good and hire a staff that can coach and develop and allow them to do there job then might be a good hire.
