Is Rocky Top out dated?

My father-in-law taught at Alabama and is a diehard Crimson Tide fan and he even told me a few weeks ago that he thought Rocky Top was probably the most recognizable and best fight song (even though not our official fight song) in the country. Notre Dame, USC, Michigan, etc., might disagree, but at the very least Rocky Top is top 2-3. I know it drives opposing fans crazy too, which makes me love it even more.

Does anyone think that maybe playing a 50 year old hillbilly country song is past it's prime? With the advent of other music to pump up the crowd and the team gaining popularity nationwide, it may be time to consider making a change. My first home game was in 1972, when I saw Haskel Stanback run the opening kickoff back for a TD against Penn State, in a Big Orange victory. Rocky Top wasn't played then and the crowd didn't seem to miss it. I know this may not be a popular idea, but just wondering how most fans feel.

How do I feel? Like this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Changing one of the most recognizable college fight songs? not gonna happen.

A treasure doesn't have to be relevant to still have value.

I was at a northern OH Catholic wedding reception some years ago and the band struck up Rocky Top. Everyone sang to it (with and without alcohol consumption).

Yeah, have someone suggest you drop your family name because it's been some time since the beginning/roots of that family history.

not gonna happen.

So you basically want to get rid of one of the most recognizable aspects to the Tennessee Brand? Not to mention one of the main things that opposing teams cannot stand when they come to Neyland? Absolutely not.

Rocky Top is part of who we are, part of our history. Why not eliminate the maxims and get rid of running through the T as well? We could probably get some cash from a corporate sponsor to rename Neyland Stadium while we're wiping our arse with our team's history.

Yes.

And while we are at it, I recommend we change the mascot to an allergy-friendly Labradoodle named "Smokeless."
