Is Josh Dobbs the Most underrated player in the nation?

Kelly has no ground on him. He simply had a better supporting cast and played in a gimmick offense that produces lots of empty stats (like Baylor).

He'll be exposed this year.

Lol.

Everybody...and I do mean EVERYBODY....has Kelly as the 1st team all-SEC QB, not Josh.

Last year Dobbs had, according to you, a sure fire 1st rd/generational talent at RB, another second round RB, a future all-pro TE, at least two early round NFL OL draft picks (Thomas and Wiesman) and a WR that should've been taken no later than the 4th rd.

Kelly was surrounded with more offensive talent than that?

And what exactly is gimmicky about an offense that likes to throw the ball downfield because their QB has an accurate, rifle-arm?

Also, empty stats? What the hell is empty about 41 total tds and 4500+ yards from your QB which leads to the 10th best offense in the nation and a 10-win season?

Dobbs was named first team preseason All-SEC by the Birmingham News/AL.com. 😁

Actually no. The SEC Sports Information Directors voted Dobbs as the All-SEC 1st team QB. So did many in the media as seen by how close the vote was for 1st team QB.

2016 Preseason Media Days All-SEC Team

313 points vs 321 points looks mighty close. In fact, Josh was closer to being the 1st team QB than Hurd was to being 1st team RB ahead of a Nick Chubb returning from injury.

Everybody does not have Chad Kelly as the best QB in the SEC. Many have Dobbs. Especially the wise sports information directors around the SEC.

No. Its wasn't AL.com. They just published the data. The voters were actually the Sports Information Directors of the 14 member schools of the SEC.

In other words the SEC said Dobbs was the first team QB.

Dobbs does have the best highlight video in college football.

It shows he has the highest potential.

Now it's all about living up to that potential in 2016.

so Dobbs has the highest potential because his highlight video?

Exactly.

Highlights show how good you can be. Dobbs has flashed one of a kind talent. Now it's about being consistent.

If he can consistently do what he has so far flashed, he will be the best....by a wide margin!!!

That's because he's being held back by Butch Jones.

We've only let Dobbs loose in 2 games. 2014 South Carolina and 2015 Georgia. Those are the only games in his last 18 starts in which we fell behind by 14+ points. With such a deficit, Butch had no choice but to put the game into Dobbs hands. Something Dabo and Clemson do in every game with Deshaun Watson.

So what did Dobbs do when we fell behind by 2+ TDs? He responded with 2 of the best games in SEC history. 300+ yards passing. 100+ yards rushing. 4 TDs vs South Carolina. 5 TDs vs Georgia. And 2 incredible come from behind victories.

Dobbs can do that every week if Butch would let him. Instead Butch loves to be conservative and instead ride the game out just running the ball with our RBs.

Butch has done a good job managing Dobbs skill set imo.

Hes just not accurate. Hes not.

I wish he was... because we have so much talent and experience elsewhere that pretty much we would be a shoe in to Atlanta.

Not as accurate as we wanted him to be last season yeah. He also had a few dropped passes including two for TD's. He still completed nearly 60% of his passes with a WR core that totally underperformed as well.

Let's give him a chance in 2016 to prove he can throw the ball to all levels of the field in the passing game. He's certainly not going to be short on weapons.

Josh Dobbs is overrated. Many instances when the ball was snapped and he immediately chose to throw the ball to Kamara in the backfield and under/ overthrow him so badly AK couldn't get his hands near the ball. His being 76th in passer rating last year says enough.

He'll be exposed this year.

Kelly also plays in West which has more talent by far especially on defense.

Take the Dobbs glasses off bro.

No one is saying Dobbs is not a great QB which he is. He has potential to be a Heisman candidate but he hasn't proved it fully. I think he'll put up great numbers this year. He's been working really hard this off season and I think he's coming back with a chip on his shoulder. However, until he puts those numbers up and wins the games, he won't be considered the best in the nation. Talent wise, he has a lot but it's nothing phenomenal. Like KBVol said, he doesn't have the talent that comes once in a generation. But if the kid works hard on his craft, I'm sure he could pan out well to have a good NFL career.

You can only use our offensive scheme somewhat for his lower numbers. But our scheme doesn't affect his inconsistency passing.

But arent highlights just the video representations of the stats Dobbs produced?

There were many easy catchable balls that were dropped that had they been caught, would hwve improved his accuracy. Overrated? Not even close. Based on potential, he is underrated at this point because Dobbs has all the tools to be one of the best in the country.

This article seems to think so.

Makes some good points. Hopefully he lives up to the hype and brings home an SEC championship this year.

I think he's very talented and athletic, the sky is the limit on how great he can be this season. With that said, he's got some accuracy issues that I think will be worked out by game time this season. Also, based on last season, he hasn't won over the coaches just yet. They held him back a lot last year in the passing game. If it were me I would ride this kid's athletic ability straight to a NC. Hhes not underrated right now, but could be by the end of the season, hehe.

So... All we need to do is dig ourselves a hole every game then.

Until he can produce at the level he has in the Georgia/Scar/KY games on a consistent basis, I can't see him as anything other than what he is. He was on the heisman preseason watch list last year, and I remember being incredulous when I heard. Potential doesn't mean squat if he never reaches it. Do you really envision him getting more than ~3200 pass yards this year, 1000 more than last year? I see him getting around 3000 py and between 400-800 rush. maybe 100 receiving yards too ;)

Hmm. And what was our longest reception in the FL '015 game / was it not a 58 yrd pass to the qb ?? Lots of FL folks scoff at that play.

So, you blame Coach Jones for being all play-call conservative/running on 1st downs vs passing etc, in a year our offense totaled more gains than any recent year. Simultaneously, you're expecting Dobbs to up his ante from 2300 to 3500 passing yrs this year, while you portray last year's 4200-yarder Kelly as essentially-phony for playing in a gimmicky offense.

You logic is il, imo, on this topic of gimmicky offense (that is, anyone who passes =>3500 is gimmicky, except Dobbs).

Go VOLS !! Go Dobbs !!
