Is Josh Dobbs the Most underrated player in the nation?

A QB who completes barely 60% of his passes, most of which are horizontal screens....a running QB who averages less than 5 yards per carry.....a QB who throws for less than 100 yards in a game every 5.5 starts and struggled mightily completing any passes downfield....a QB who's lost 8 of his 22 starts while playing in a historically bad SEC East.

No, he's not the most underrated player in the country. He's on the Heisman, OBrien and Maxwell Awards lists. He's the preseason 2nd team All-SEC QB. He's usually named the primary reason why Tennessee's expectations are so high.

He's an outstanding QB/player who gets a ton of publicity and mention for accolades. How in the world can he be called underrated? Makes zero sense.

He's the best player in college football. Unless you give him that distinction, he's underrated.

That was an amazing highlight video. He made ever play you could think of from that video. He showed he can throw the ball.

Where's all the haters on him & say he can't throw? Well, that video showed & this coming season he will prove what he can do.

Dobbs does have the best highlight video in college football.

It shows he has the highest potential.

Now it's all about living up to that potential in 2016.

In terms of potential, I think Dobbs is definitely underrated. I truly believe that he has the potential to be one of the best in the country. He has not proven that on the field yet. I hope to see it this season.

I will say this, if and its a big if, Dobbs passing talent catches up to his running ability, we will be fielding the best QB in the country.

He'll do it. The kid is driven and motivated to be the best. He's now got the supporting cast and experience.

2016 is the year he explodes to become the face of college football.

Josh is outstanding and I'm glad he's our QB...I love the kid. But he's neither the best player in his conference nor on his team. But he is absolutely good enough to lead my Vols to an SEC title if he can improve his passing efficiency and downfield accuracy.

After this thread runs its course, someone should start a thread about whether Josh Dobbs is a good QB.

Yeah right.

Every other word outta ya mouth is a negative shot at Dobbs. Stop lying to us. You know you don't like him.

No, damn near every word about him is positive. The problem is your utter stupidity in irrationally overselling him.

You somehow interpret my (and everybody else's) saying that he's an outstanding player, the second best QB in the SEC and a top 10 QB in the country as hating on him. I can and have made lists outlining the great, positive things about Josh...with his downfield accuracy being his only shortcoming.

Then here you come saying crazy stuff like "he's the best player in the country" and "he's a certain 1st round NFL pick" and "he's a generational talent". Sorry pal, absolutely nobody else believes that other than you.

Everybody on this board loves the kid. I was on VN defending Josh when he was a freshman, well before you even knew what VolNation was and started posting here.

So go ahead and continue with your foolishness while the rest of us accurately define and discuss what Josh actually is.....a great player, leader, face of the program and young man....but an imperfect QB who needs to improve his passing efficiency if the Vols are gonna get to where we all think they can.

Josh is not getting proper respect from the media! He should have been voted first team on the preseason team, not chad kelly.

This is absolute hogwash.

Dobbs is being underrated only if you fon't give him the distinction of best football player of all time. You probably can't see it, since you don't have my gift, but 5 years from now when Dobbs has a Heisman, a Natty, and 4 Super Bowl MVPs, you'll be able to appreciate my genius.

No he's not, and there's nothing you can point to that proves or even suggests he is. Kelly is the best QB in the SEC, Josh is #2.

All you see is stats. You can't see talent like I can.

We'll see whose right after the season.

Dobbs will be in New York and Tampa to collect awards while Ole Miss and Kelly won't even go bowling.

Those "stats" usually get a player to New York.

There you go again. No, I see whether or not a guy can make all the throws or not....whether or not he's athletic.... and makes good, quick decisions/knows where to go with the ball....whether or not he leads his team to wins.

And amazingly enough, guys that do all those things typically put up better, much better stats than guys who can't/aren't/don't.

We will indeed see this year....we'll see if Josh can make up all the ground that Kelly has on him from last year.

Kelly has no ground on him. He simply had a better supporting cast and played in a gimmick offense that produces lots of empty stats (like Baylor).

He'll be exposed this year.
