Iran

Iran as a nation as a fear doesn't even crack my top 10 of international concerns
No offense intended towards you personally, but the only friend I trust on matters such as this says quite the opposite. And he is undoubtedly more informed on the situation there than any of us on this board.

"Trump says"

Even worse IMO.

There isn’t a single universally agreed number, because it depends on what you count (e.g., “lies” vs. “false or misleading claims”) and which fact-checker you use. But we do have a well-known benchmark from The Washington Post Fact Checker:

Overall average (his presidency)

How it changed over time

Important context

  • Fact-checkers usually use the phrase “false or misleading claims” rather than “lies,” because proving intent (a true “lie”) is harder.
  • Different organizations (like PolitiFact, FactCheck.org, etc.) may count somewhat differently, but they broadly agree the volume was unusually high compared to past presidents.

Bottom line

  • A reasonable, widely cited figure is around 20–21 false or misleading claims per day on average, with much higher rates toward the end of his presidency.
If you want, I can compare that to other presidents or explain how fact-checkers decide what counts as a “false or misleading claim.”

The people who fact checked Trump because he said “burgers were stacked a mile high”?

Yeah, they’re a complete joke.1776284635184.jpeg

#1. I am going to cheat with this one a bit, but whatever the US is involved in. What we do on an international stage concerns me far more than what another nation will do. We are the biggest guy on the block so anything we do is going to be bigger, and closer to home, even on an international stage. we have/are lead by crazy people, and have been in way too many wars to trust.
#2. after us, China by a mile, everything else is a noticeable step down. been there for a while. territorial gains, manufacturing, population crisis, etc.
#3. Putin losing in Ukraine, unstable dictator losing power who has nukes is a problem.
#4. Israel as a powder keg. potential to start so many world wars either as the victim or attacker.
#5. NATO collapsing. The NATO peace has kept another world war from happening. if we pull out, it starts to fall apart and Europe is back to their old ways.
#6. (not in order but a separate worry related to NATO collapsing) A lot of war friendly nations are rearming for the first time in since WW2. Germany and Japan, and there have been concerning rhetoric changes. I don't think they would start a fight this time, but they would be key players in a larger conflict as potential political wildcards.
#7. Pakistan vs India, both sides with nukes and plenty of reasons to hate each other.
#8. Netherlands, particularly for their chip technology. Them and Taiwan a real thin line holding the modern world together, but I am lumping Taiwan in with China or they would be their own line item, probably should be.
#9. not really sure it counts as "international", but AI.
#10. the Sauds/OPEC concern me more than Iran. in the past we have been at their beck and call, and considering the Saudi link to 9/11 that NEVER got looked into, I am not particularly sure that issue is closed. they control a far larger chunk of the oil, and have far more muslims between them than Iran.

I would throw in any number of resource concerns (beyond oil), population changes, debt, and without being pedantic about all the ways each of those could blow up in our faces. China alone has half a dozen concerns that worry me more than Iran.

I would put Iran next to NK. and as I said, another ISIS type situation spawning out Iran would be a US issue in my book, not an Iran one.

not that I expect it at all, but I would be interested to see your friends response to these issues. would also be interested in where his view point comes from, if he is selling something its going to push his view certain ways.

Some people really want life to be a Disney movie where there's a hero that can do no wrong and a villain that just wants to kill everyone in the world for the sake of it. Fits in with the "everyone is 12 now" theme
Actually the western tradition is built around the idea of a flawed hero who perseveres and overcomes evil in spite of and because of facing their imperfections.
Beginning with the Epic of Gilgamesh, through the Greek Tragedies, the Bible (David anyone), Shakespeare, even down to the modern day when Frodo was unable to destroy the ring; we do not have heroes who can do no wrong (except in hyper liberal Hollywood).
The western cannon is that of a fallen world filled with flawed and broken heroes who still have to face and overcome real and absolute evil.
Same as it ever was.

Yeah I'm sure it would be completed in two weeks just like the healthcare plan or Greenland, and totally wouldn't result in something similar to how 99% of the refugees we now accept are white South Africans

Well…if the black South Africans had not threatened to kill every white person in SA, they wouldn’t need to seek refuge in the US.

Similar to how radical Muslims (insert nation name here) desire to annihilate all Christians and they seek refuge in the US.

Well I still know plenty of people close to this and absolutely nobody was or is worried about Iran on any topic. And a bunch are really looking forward to that bonus/profit sharing money coming from planned replenishment orders.

Trump has lost his damn mind.

I remember when my father was facing his own mortality. He was never a religious man his entire life. Our family probably went to church twice in my entire childhood. Yet when he was going to die he suddenly found Jesus.

Here we are now with Donald J Trump finding himself religion. For a scumbag of his proportion to me this is obscene. But what do I know.

Given his recent tirade against the Pope and subsequent posting of himself as Jesus, the 25th seems more and more appropriate.

He's becoming delusional.

Seriously. WTF is this? We've been so gas-lighted to this point that somehow this seems normal? No president in his right mind would ever and I repeat ever even consider posting something so whackadoodle as this.

I know a couple of people more informed about it than anyone on this board and they wouldn't agree with your friend.

Hatred towards some that believe in a radical portion of their religious ideology? No. No hate there.

Only a common sense application of vetting that should have been done to begin with. Unfortunately, SOP wasn’t followed and now when anyone questions it, they are labeled as full of hate and racists.

Choosing security for a nations citizens is now considered hatred towards minorities. Got it.
You're not getting any common sense for these people they are bent on making America a third world.

Dude.

We attacked Iran because Israel attacked Iran. Period.

You can't undo facts.

What happened *after* that is irrelevant.
Israel didn’t attack Iran first and then we hopped in after. This was well coordinated attack that had been planned for years. You’re either stupid or lying. Give up the crap that there was no plan and Trump is stupid. If you can’t see a definite strategy going all the way back to Panama you are a fool.
We now are in control o China’s oil. I guess there will be no more talk of then going after Taiwan in ‘27. We are China’s daddy now. New world order.
