Iran

you realise Trump's terrible plan had us pulling out May 1st 2021. but Biden actually pulled us out 3 months later at the end of August. and considering they had all of 2021 to actually handle the plan, I am struggling to see how the actual pull out is on Trump.

were previous parts and pieces of the Afghan mess up on Trump? Yes. The pullout? Doesn't really make sense. Biden clearly edited it, so it seems like it his issue.

Back in 2021, being before Trump's second term, we still pretended that the US government had actual continuity between presidents, and Biden was beholden to honor the plan that Trump put in motion.

The troop draw down from 8600 in June of 2020, to 2500 in January of 2021 was 100% Trump's decision, a move even Congressional Republicans were against.

That was a failure on Biden's part. He should have just said Trump's plan is stupid, and I'm not going to do it, and just lived with the blow back from Republicans who would have most assuredly blamed him for "keeping US troops in Afghanistan."

Female US Journalist 'is Kidnapped by Armed Men in Baghdad' amid fears of Link to Iran-Backed Group

An American journalist has been kidnapped by an armed group in Baghdad, Iraqi officials have confirmed.

Shelly Kittleson, a freelance reporter covering the Middle East and Afghanistan, was abducted by a group of unidentified men near her hotel in the Iraqi capital on Tuesday.

The Iraqi interior ministry confirmed that a 'foreign journalist was kidnapped by unknown individuals,' adding that security forces are pursuing the perpetrators.

'The pursuit resulted in the interception of a vehicle belonging to the kidnappers, which overturned as they attempted to flee,' the ministry said, confirming that a suspect was arrested.

The journalist was reportedly taken near the Palestine Hotel on Al-Saadoun Street in central Baghdad.

No group has claimed responsibility yet but there are fears Iran could be behind the kidnapping.

Kittleson was not in the vehicle intercepted by Iraqi security forces and her whereabouts are said to be currently unknown.

Police sources said they were still chasing a vehicle in which she was taken by force by four men in civilian clothes.

lol, no we didn't. at least not for EO/military type stuff. I mean Biden made changes to Trump's pullout plan. clearly Biden had no interest in the continuity of following Trump's plan. Not saying Biden was wrong to not follow Trump's plan, just pointing out that continuity doesn't survive even the previous term.

Biden was under no obligation to follow Trumps deal with the Taliban and he didn't follow the withdrawal plan or timeline. Trumps Doha deal with the Taliban was crap but once Biden changed the timeline and plan he owned the withdrawal fluckup.

Commentary What the Biden administration’s report on the Afghanistan withdrawal gets wrong

Sure we did, and it was moot anyway, the draw down to 2500 troops was finalized on January 15th 2021,5 days before Biden was sworn in, and against the will of Congress who overrode Trump's veto I might add.

Biden should have had to political fortitude to say this is a stupid idea, but he didn't, and with Trump's draw down to 2500 troops, it was untenable to leave them there since Bagram requires ~5,000 personnel to be maintained and defended.

It's moot, the 5000 had already been released as of September 2020, and US troops had been reduced to 2500 on January 15th 2021 before Biden assumed office. Bagram itself needs 5000 personnel to run, there was no way to leave the 2500 personnel in place, and maintain security or operations.

The Taliban didn't start advancing on Kabul until August 6th 2021, why did they wait 7 months?

Do those water pails ever get heavy?

To quote Trump himself:
"How about that? Worse than Afghanistan, where, by the way, I started the process. All the troops are coming back home. They couldn't stop the process. Donald Trump: (22:53) 21 years is enough. Don't we think? 21 years. They couldn't stop the process. They wanted to, but it was very tough to stop the process when other things...yeah."

LOL so they increased their attacks AFTER the Biden admin changed the timeline and plan.

Biden owns the debacle, stop carrying his water. If everything would have went perfectly you'd have been the first one here crowing about how Biden saved the day by changing Trumps timeline and plan.

Uh, no.

Maybe up until 2021 we still pretended there was actual continuity. Biden's Day 1 EO's shattered that pretext, though. Just another escalation of partisan hackery. Trump continued it in 2025 and it will continue unabated.....

So, just to get this straight, you are complaining about the chaos of the pullout that occurred in August, but would have rather Biden tried to adhere to the May 1st deadline set by Trump's Taliban deal, and have an even more chaotic exit?

TACO TUESDAY

President Donald Trump on Tuesday said he expected that U.S. military forces will leave Iran in “two or three weeks.”

We leave because there’s no reason for us to do this,” Trump told reporters at the White House.

“We’ll be ‌leaving very soon,” the president said.

😆

Pretty sure that this has been the mantra of smart people since DAY ONE you big dumbass.

Meanwhile, back in MAGA Land...
