I’ve probably talked to more Muslims in my life in this country than you could dream of, and I don’t think in the history of our conversations the term “caliphate” has ever come up. I’m not convinced 90% of them even know what a caliphate is. You guys are so lost in the propaganda it’s insane.

Would be nice , but our refinery make up is wrong to be able to do that. About 70% of our refinery capacity is for heavy crude and most of our oil is light crude. That happened when the vast majority of our oil came from the middle east and the majority of their oil is heavy I believe.

I wasn't talking about the exact term caliphate. What is that that is going on in Minnesota and Michigan?

same thing that happened before where Minnesota's NFL team being the Vikings made a reference back to the large number of scandavians living up there.

you can go down the list Germans, Italians, Greeks, chinese, japanese, every major ethnic/nationality group created their own exclaves. heck pretty much every city has a jewish neighborhood or two with only synagogues, restaurants closed on Saturday with kosher only menus, see Jewish families walking around dressed up for synagogue looking very "un American". funny how they never need to assimilate.

Yeah, and the Germans, Italians, Greeks, Chinese, Japanese, and Jews became Americans. There are more Madigan than ethnics in Little Italy and ChinaTown today that wasn't the case was back when the enclaves formed.
Yes they are certain groups that keep to themselves and never really assimilate totally, but they don't set up their own civil laws and try to impose them on everyone else. There is a law proposed in NYC right now that seeks to ban keeping dogs as pets because that is offensive to muslims. Are the Jews trying to make Saturday the sabbath for everyone else or force all restaurants and grocery stores to only sell kosher foods? Are the chanting "These are out chanting, "These are our streets"? Do the Amish try to make everyone give up automobile and use horse and buggy ? (actually the Democrats are.)

Light crude can not be used for the heavy distillates. They can and do blend the two, that is very common standard practice. Actual you are stating a myth, that we don't use our own oil because oil companies make more, that is 🐂 💩. We export what we don't use ourselves.

The American consumer is more important than national security, right? How good would it be for the American consumer if Iran was allow sovereignty over the Strait and hold the world hostage with nuclear weapons?
Personally I will pay $4 a gallon in the short term to deal with those lunatics permanently.

And how can we forget the people in all the hollers in Appalachia that stay out of society, they don't need to assimilate either. Only Muslims.

The Hate Trump crowd and the lefties are not going to like this. I was talking to my daughter who worries greatly about the price of gasoline. I told her the markets will stabilize and supply chains will change but that takes time. If not another drop of oil came from Iran, in the long run it would make no difference to anyone except Iran.
Remember when everyone was losing their shite over the price of eggs. The market fixed itself, it always does.

Tell me you don't understand the basics of oil/fuel production without telling me you don't understand the basics about oil/fuel production.

For it not to matter, and for the market to correct itself, the amount of price pain we'll have to go through to change the way we fundamentally refine oil into gas in this country could cause near political collapse.

You can refine light crude in refineries setup for heavy, it's just not as efficient. You cannot process heavy in refineries that are setup for light only, as they don't have the hydrocrackers necessary.

Feel free to ask a petroleum engineer.

There are hundreds of varieties of crude oil around the world. Different types of oil require different refining processes to make the fuels we need in the quantities we need. Many American refineries need heavier crudes than what is largely produced in the United States.
