"VolNation is far superior than our miserable forum. Their overall intellect is astounding. All of their posts are always in high regard for their team and coach. I never see a negative comment and believe that they are going to change the world with their positive energy and overall love for their football team. I for one am extremely envious of their football knowledge and hope to one day be able to walk in their shadows. They are football Gods!!" HawkeyeNation

Well maybe not word for word....:whistling:

We should be confident but not overly confident. Remember, our guys have NEVER been to a bowl game that are on our current roster. Work, practice, prepare hard but they should have some fun too. After all, these are 18-22 yr old young adults. As to the posters on here, be classy. Yes, we want to win but no reason to put another team down. Go VOLS!

Feel better about this matchup than when I thought we were playing WVU for sure, but I'm hardly confident, much less overconfident based on what I saw the last time we played vs Vandy.

Also, seen waaayyyyy too many bowl games over the years where our guys didn't show up. I'm very happy we're going bowling and getting the extra practices to help aid in the development of our young team. But I'm personally far from considering this game an automatic win.

Each fanbase has it's own share of crazy fans posting unrealistic crap to keep themselves entertained. When I visited their board they seemed pretty indifferent towards the match-up. They seem to agree Tennessee has more talent. But they don't seem confident in their team or their coaches ability. All I know about Iowa is they haven't had a lot to celebrate, especially after losing their last two games by a total of 5 points and losing to a 2-10 Iowa St at home.

I saw on one page that the Iowa fans were ecstatic. I think it was a local tv station out there. I just saw it on Google when I was searching the Taxslayer Bowl. I have been to Council Bluffs, Iowa years ago and people were nice to me.

The folks in Omaha call C.B. "Counciltucky"

Not many people here in Iowa are happy with CKF. He looses the games he is suppose to win and cant seem to develop a consistent offense. He does really well with the OL development. Vols by 10

If they do fire him, do you think he wants a job coaching our O-line? HA!

FWIW (which is not much) Jimmy Hyams said he doesn't buy into the whole extra 15 practices because he thinks they just have relaxed practices and don't actually do much with the playbook or developing the players. I swear, that guy is just a freaking idiot

OMG! They even have a thread encouraging people not to buy bowl tickets to try and out their coach. :eek:hmy:

HawkeyeNation Hawkeye Football

Its hilarious they think they are going to steamroll us...typical slow white Big Ten team..plodding down the field and almost losing to Northern Iowa and Ball St, etc

Ferentz is the most overrated overpaid coach in the country and hes "happy to be there" while Butch is sizing them up for a beatdown

Actually most of what I'm reading has their fan base hating their coach, glad they even got a bowl game(in fact it was their goal just like it was ours), and most aren't excited about their chances against us. I get the impression that there will be a lot of orange in that stadium on Jan 2.

They could do just that we lost our leader and MLB averaging 11 tackles per game... the position had 3 tackles aganist Vandy. We are beat up and a shuffled OL that is last in the SEC. So yeah if Vandy can give us a scare a 7 win team can. Our QB is dynamic but can be prone to TO's. I think the VOLS could win but it will take a solid game.

I agree with you Iowa is a pretty good team even tho they lost to Iowa St. They have a solid qb themselfs

I posted these captured Iowa fan quotes in another forum last night. Apparently negas live in Iowa too. My favorite was the "may the best mediocre team win".

At some point in the game you're going to ask yourself in bewilderment: "Are they running a stretch play with a fullback over and over?" Yes. Yes we are.

It has been a while seeing Iowa vs the Vols on the grid iron. Good luck...may the best mediocre team win.

You'll see our training staff cleaning up the puddles of urine at the feet of our offense late third/early fourth quarter.

Wait until you see Iowa execute the stretch play with a 250 RB that runs a 4.85 40....it's a sight for sore eyes....

Bring some pressure and watch the soft shoe act by our QB.......

Run the read option with your quick QB and you can que the band with Rockytop all day long!

Glad the 'Vols are back! Butch Jones is solid and Tennessee is by far, my favorite SEC team....

Enjoy....one time is on an upward tick and one is in free fall with restless fans.

Iowas problem is they always tend to play to their competition. This year is no different. They lose to a horrible ISU team and get blown out by Minnesota, but lose by a combined 5 points to Wisconsin and Nebraska.
If the latter team shows up UT will probably lose, but if a healthy UT shows up and Dobbs can make throws UT wins.
The poster saying UT shouldn't count it as a win "with a worse record regardless of conference" is bull cuz they only played 3 ranked teams. How many ranked teams has UT played again?

They don't seem too excited about the matchup. Most think it will be a loss. They are really down on CKF

The game has passed Ferentz by and he will not adapt his system to personnel on offense. Of course I'm not sure what system would work with current personnel as recruiting has suffered as a result of running a boring offense players are not excited to play in. It's one of those chicken/egg paradigms. (And Iowa City is cold island in a sea of corn of course. Personally I love it but couldn't see the average 4 star from Florida getting hyped to go there.)

Going 7-5 this year with a weak schedule was a blow to that fanbase. As a result of all this, I suspect this will look like a home game for the Vols.

That said, they do a great job of developing the kids they do bring in or a coaching change would have occurred long ago. They are also going to be very well prepared for the Vols and likely won't beat themselves. Look for a close game like last year's 21-14 game when the Hawkeyes hung tough against LSU.

If Tennessee can get some breaks early, a blow out is not out of the question. If Iowa hangs around they can definitely win this game.
