From the Hawkeye Report board
Doing some creeping on Twitter and Tennessee message boards. Tennessee
seem extremely confident in this game. They are essentially claiming it
should be an easy victory for them and that the Hawks will not be much
of a battle. One poster even said that if they win by less than 21, it
should be considered a loss. And, to top it off, they're talking about how they are creeping on our own boards and seeing posts of Iowa fans hoping to just keep it within a few touchdowns.
I can't be the only Hawkeye fan who has completely given up, can I?
Yeah, Iowa has
struggled more than expected this season. Yeah, we let the THIRD game of
the season slip away and were upset by our heated, in-state rival who
ended up being super terrible. Yeah, we were blown out by another rival
who hates us and has finished the regular season ranked. Yeah, we lost
to two other rivals by a combined 5 points who are both ranked as well.
Yeah, Rudock struggles. Yeah, CJB has great hair. Yeah, we underperform and, at times, really suck at moving the ball. All of that is really crappy and terrible and true. But I wouldn't necessarily
say this team is overly bad. Or, at least not bad enough where a team
with a worse record, regardless of conference, should be claiming this
as an easy victory nearly a month early. And not bad enough that the fan base should be giving up on these players who put their heart and soul into every practice and game. It isn't their fault that the coaches seem inept at times. They have shown that they can play well at times and with weeks of time to prepare, why do so many think this isn't even a possibility?
Plus, even if Iowa has
an underwhelming season, they at least tend to compete well in their
bowls. Iowa hasn't been blown out in a bowl since the 2003 Orange Bowl
where they lost by 21 to #4 USC. And Iowa doesn't usually get blown out ever. Close losses are the Hawks specialty.
I'm
not saying Iowa won't be blown out because, as we saw versus Minnesota,
it is definitely possible. I just don't get Tennessee's confidence,
especially for a team who is bowl eligible for the first time since
2010.
