From 07 to 09 UT only got 1 OL that has contributed significantly to the program and that was Dallas Thomas.

In that same time period the only DL to contribute more than 1 year have been Martin (tough guy but injury prone and never lived up to billing because of it), Bohannon, and Walls.

Talk about a way to run the program in the ground.

The flashy skill position players sell tickets. The big uglies up front win championships.

The best season I ever had was when I had some highly skilled big guys with nasty attitudes on both sides of the ball combined with average to decent skill players.

Too bad having awesome players in both areas is a rare occurrence.

That's where Fulmer's recruiting fell off the most, surprising considering that oline was his specialty.

Think about what a nightmare it was for CDD coming in two weeks before NSD. How do you even evaluate team needs in that amount of time in a completely new program? He must have leaned on others' advice as to what we needed and just tried to keep who he could and go after who we were already going after. Definitely can see why he called that year zero at times.

Fulmer overestimated his abilities when he got older. He didn't realize, you have to work harder not less and he couldn't understand why top prospects didn't just keep flocking to him like when he was younger and worked hard every day.

Its been apparent around here for a while that not only did Fulmer get lazy recruiting, but he also refused to acknowledge it.

He didn't overestimate anything. He just got lazy and arrogant. I don't know whether he is still lazy today but he is still arrogant. And you're right, to get and keep top prospects you have to work at it all the time.

Why do these posts always turn out to be Fulmer bashing...he's gone, get over it quit blaming everything on him. It's sounds like Obama blaming Bush for everything.

Part of the problem was the coaching turnover and the loss of players through attrition. The scholarship limits slowed down the rebuilding process as well. Now Dooley finally has 85 scholarship players and a much improved defensive coaching staff. Let's get excited and move foward and quit looking back trying to find someone or something to blame.

Can't wait for the fall! Go Vols!

I wish Mike Hamilton would do an interview and disclose who was willing to take the UT job when he hired Dooley. Given how bad our roster was, I imagine the list would be short and unimpressive.

Fulmer is a humongous part of the problem we have faced in recent years.

No matter how much info and/or documentation he would put out there, there would always be someone on VN with "inside info" that would debunk anything Hamilton said.
