I for one support this decision. I don't understand why everybody says this is a bad hire. Was Lane Kiffin a good hire going off his record? Hell no.

Did you know he is the son of of legendary University of Georgia head football coach and athletic director Vince Dooley?

Did you know he was the recruiting coordinator for Nick Saban at LSU, which landed 2 number 1 classes in his time.

Everybody around here seems to hate Saban, but will admit he is an awesome coach! Well if Nick Saban likes this guy enough to have him on his staff (LSU to Miami) for 6 years then he's good enough for me.

I just wanted to start this thread so when he proves all of you nay sayers wrong we can look back at who supported this hire!

Long time reader first time posting. I am amazed at all of the whining and complaining I am hearing from so called VOL fans. I am true orange blooded and I love this town and this football team. The same people calling Kiffin a scumbag for leaving us the way he did are the same people complaining because they expect coaches from other high profile programs to do the same thing. Where is the integrity in that? They all want a Kiffin and choose not to accept a coach. I just don't get it. If you are a VOL fan you need to accept the new coach. You need to give him a chance. He hasn't even stepped on campus and these people want blood. I for one wish new head coach Dooley all the best and hope he can be here and have years of success. Go Vols.

Support. Why wouldn't I. Ties to the SEC, strong recruiter, aggressive. Not to mention, the difficult circumstances UT was put in. Some of the comment son here are utterly ridiculous, but then again, it is a message board and that is what one would expect.

I say bring the guy in. We can keep Kippy and Thompson hopefully and maybe add some other guys in key spots. This guy CAN recruit, so can Kippy, so can Thompson. You guys forget that the HC isn't the only one recruiting. Look at SC right now. You think they got a lot of guys coming there for CLK? No, they have guys coming there for Coach O, Monte, and a school with tons of tradition. UT will be UT, I'm surprised at how little faith some of us Vol fans have. I understand it's not the ideal situation, but hey, tough times call for tough decisions. Great programs always get back on top. Give the guy a chance, show him how great UT fans are and support your VOLS.

I hadn't even heard of this guy until late last night but the more I read about him today I have to say it seems like a pretty good hire. Everyone has to start from somewhere and just because he didn't set the world on fire at La Tech doesn't bother me after all its La Tech.

I will give this guy a chance. I believe he will be excitied to be here unless the crazy fans of tennesee threaten his family or throw stuff at them. Lets see what he can do.

We were going for a "splash" hire, I thought. Well, I suppose double D's will always make a bigger splash than a b or c cup. Seriously, though, this is not a bad hire. You have to consider the timing, etc. If this guy can put together a breathtaking, star-studded, recruiting oriented staff while keeping the core of what we have together, he could change not being a bad hire to being a very good, maybe even great hire. Regardless, if this is who we get, I will support him until he proves he can't do the job.

DD is about 100x more qualified than the turn-coat we hired last year, and he will keep Kippy,Thompson, Chaney and Cregg (if he wants to stay) on staff. That could be HUGE in saving whats left of our recruiting class. DD is much better spoken and mature than lame was/is, and he has been in the SEC fire that is recruiting and has NFL experience. I think people are just let down because they let themselves believe we would actually get someone like Gruden, Lovie Smith or Stoops.

I'm behind Dooley 100%...time will tell, but he isn't going to have much success w/o the support of the fans, so let's give him a chance!

I'm supporting this. I think he is smart enough to see the big picture and get this thing going right. I trust MH, think he is very bright and if this is his choice I will follow it. All hail CDD
