If we had a 10-3 record who thinks we get in the CFP?

As far as us if we were 10-3, more than likely, we'd be out. Sure, we'd be a great draw and bring in a lot of Vols fans, but Bama has established so much goodwill in the past two decades and we have just become relevant again for a few years.

I'd rather see Alabama or any other SEC team in the playoffs than Notre Dame or another Big 10 team. You guys need to get your heads outta your behinds and realize in this new world of tribalism in the college football we go as the SEC goes. If we want to keep getting the benefit of the doubt in these conversations we need SEC teams to succeed.

I'll be rooting for every SEC team to win.

The playoff committee's credibility is the joke. They have now made things even more difficult for themselves having let a 3 loss team in. They had ND ranked ahead of Miami all season, even though Miami beat them, and then at the final rankings they said Miami gets in over ND because they beat them.

Not supporting ND here just pointing out their rationales for what decisions they make are the joke.

I’m not a Bama hater to the level most Vol fans are…HOWEVER…I haven’t heard one pundit mention the FSU loss…not one. I’ll have to look it up BUT that loss has to be among the worst (if not THE worst) loss by any playoff team. Plus…it’s hard to ignore what Georgia just did to this Bama team. Sure takes a lot of credibility IMO away from this system. 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

An interesting parallel is from the 2017 season. Auburn went to the SECCG at 10-2 and had beaten #1 Georgia(40-17) then #1 Alabama(26-14) within two weeks of each other. They had several players out for the SECCG due to injury, lost 28-7 to Georgia and was knocked out of the playoffs in favor of Alabama, who sat home during Championship weekend. Alabama went on to win the natty.

They’ve done it 2 years in a row now so whether right or wrong they look to be making that precedent, which I think is the right call. The big problem are the autobids. Tulane and JMU being in is screwkng everyone.

So being 10-2 in regular season:

If it was beat Vandy and one of Bama, OU, or UGA and NOT play in SECCG - outside chance we would have been in as it would have been a win against 1 top 15 and 1 top 10 team.
- We likely would have been ranked in the 10-13 range
If it was beat Vandy and one of Bama, OU, or UGA and play in SECCG - we would have been in as it would have been a win against 1 top 15 and 1 top 10 team.
- We likely would have been ranked in the 8-10 range since things shook out for us to play in SECCG
If it was lose to Vandy and win two of the others - outside chance since there would be that loss to a lower ranked team and we wouldn't be in the SECCG

I know they were 7 pts away from being undefeated and the games they won were not remotely close. No FCS opponents anywhere to be found on this years schedule. Cam Bama say the same? Cough cough Eastern Illinois…

Actually Bama’s spot but the BS rule about conference championship game outcome not negatively affecting a team’s standing ruins my argument. Look I don’t like ND but there are still kinks that need to be worked out of this formula. I personally have always been in favor of the 16 team model. Tried and true in the FCS with the cream always rising to the top but plenty of opportunities for the cinderella teams

You mean if we had beaten at least one decent team, were 10-2 and then lost the SECCG. Well, we’d of had to beat three of the four teams we lost to and then drop our OOC power 4 game. Best case would be we have wins over two of the teams in the top 12 plus a win over Vandy and our sole conference loss was to either Georgia, Alabama or Oklahoma - and probably better to have a road loss so at Bama.

So the 10-2 Vols, having stumbled against Syracuse (before they lost their QB), roared back to win 10 of their next 11 games with wins against #3 Georgia and #8 Oklahoma but lose to Georgia in a rematch in the SECCG.

Yea, were probably in.

I remember when you had to basically win all your games to compete for a National Championship. Check the 90's for instance...BCS era.

We wouldn't because of our schedule and not beating ranked teams. If we had e losses, that would have meant being 1-3 vs ranked teams. We wouldn't have deserved to get in, just like Ala shouldn't have. And they beat better teams than us.

I was debating the spot between ND at 10-2 and Bama at 10-3. But again the conference championship game exception put Bama in which I don’t like. Im fine with Miami being in for their resume

Glad you saw that. Where was Miami before the conference championships? Where was ND. Neither team played. And if conference championship losses doesn’t matter. According to you when the Gumps still got in. Why did it hurt BYU?

They're putting in the Tide because they are going to be a huge draw for the playoffs. People are going to tune in, and their fans are going to buy up tickets and, of course, Oklahoma will have more fans since it's going to be in Norman, there will be a lot of Bama fans in the stands as well.
