No, it had nothing to do with Nike or any apparel brand. That was part of Dave Hart's brainchild when he consolidated the men and women's athletic departments as a cost-cutting measure when we were struggling financially from all the coaching buyouts.Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here. Didn't Nike put the kabosh on the term Lady Vols? Seems like our AD at the time (don't remember which one) caved and let the Lady Vols disappear for a while. Was it Nike pushing that or the AD? I never liked the vibe that they wanted complete control. If Adidas refrains from that, I'm good.

Person A is free to disagree with Person B in how Person B expresses his freedoms. It doesn’t make Person B any less free or Person A a hypocrite. You don’t have to agree with any and every Constitutionally-protected speech or action at all times to claim you love freedom.Absolutely. Heaven forbid someone express these freedoms that everyone loves to brag about.
That’s one of 28 different hats that Nike is making for schools this year. They aren’t all going to be winners.counterpoint View attachment 751416
Yes they would have a close out sale at some point. Probably official team issued gear/equipment tooIf Tennessee switches from Nike to Adidas, do stores have to sell all their Nike merchandise by a certain date or can they continue to sell what they have left of Vols Nike gear after Adidas products are in the market? Just wondering if there might be some big discount Vols sales in the near future?
I don’t think though that Adidas tries to put out 26 different hats everyday either, Nike and their people are always trying to re-invent the wheel so to speak. Just give us a few really good hats and put the time into making those the best instead of whatever the heck that ugly thing is.If you’re going to base your decisionmaking on one hat that you don’t like, you’re going to be very, very disappointed in Adidas.
The success of which funded multiple buildings on our campus. Tennessee continues to receive royalties every year through the Stokely VanCamp foundation, as does Florida.Because it's named GATORade. Get it?
There are plenty of hats with just the logo on them, but if that’s the same hat you make every year, people don’t buy every year. If you make 25 different styles every year, then most people will find one that they like and leave the rest sitting on the shelves for people who like those. Myself, I really like the hat in the picture and Intend to buy one the next time I’m in Knoxville, or might just go ahead and order it online.I don’t think though that Adidas tries to put out 26 different hats everyday either, Nike and their people are always trying to re-invent the wheel so to speak. I think this years Nike hats overall are pretty good. Every other hydration alternative is inferior to Gatorade and will limit performance? Better let UGA know that as they use Powerade. That football team will have zero success and never beat Gatorade teams like Tennessee and Florida. The success of which funded multiple buildings on our campus. Beyond that, I don’t want to put our athletes at a disadvantage by having them rely on an inferior isotonic beverage just because of the name.
Yes, Powerade is vastly inferior to Gatorade. Gatorade also provides an array of other hydration and electrolyte products that Coca-Cola doesn’t manufacture. Coca-Cola also distributes Body Armor, which has made some impressive strides in products beyond its namesake beverage, but Coke isn’t currently making it available as a part of a school’s pouring rights sponsorship. It’s Powerade unless you have an isotonic beverage carve out.l

It's not that weird. This isnt something impossible to wrap your brain around.
1.) Like any brand, people have preferences. You Like Coke, I like Pepsi. You prefer Samsung, I prefer Apple. You prefer Chevy, I prefer Ford. Nike is a popular apparel brand that a LOT of people prefer for various reasons. If you're a Tennessee fan that buys a lot of Tennessee apparel, chances are you think Nike is better quality. If we switch to Adidas, that means that a good chunk of fans will have to start buying a brand they dont like. Thats not nothing. It's something that directly impacts the fans.
2.) There IS a perception out there that the large majority of recruits prefer Nike over Adidas. I believe that's true. Nike is like Led Zeppelin. They are an eternally hip brand that never falls out of favor, no matter how much trends change. It is as solid and unwavering in terms of favorability as you're going to find in branding! Plus Nike always associates itself with the highest profile athletes and is generally synonymous with premium quality. I dont want to lose that brand association when the majority of recruits prefer it.
3.) I hear people say "well recruits care about NIL money more now than brand apparel." Well, ok but other schools have NIL too. What if a recruit is deciding between us and a Nike branded school and everything else is equal? Apparel branding could very well be the deciding factor! I dont want to give that potential leverage to our rivals!
Nike is a publicly traded company, so shareholders actually get to see where the money goes. Does Phil Knight give some of his personal income to Oregon? Absolutely. But no Nike profits go to Oregon, beyond their apparel contract which is not in the top 10 of Nike deals.Nothing will get discounted until a new contract is signed. Just like the last two times. Hope UT gets away from Nike and funds funneling to Oregon. Anybody that thinks part of that money isn't going into a fund Phil and his people set up - is bat _ _ _ _ crazy.
UA is tanking. The Barn is switching to Nike.Absolutely! Adidas Fan gear is absolute trash and so are their uniforms. Nike is far and away the better option. Honestly, I prefer Under Armour over all of them. Really wish UA would offer us a deal we couldn't refuse. Although that's doubtful, I much prefer Nike or Adidas. Like you said, the majority of the athletes do too. But, to each their own.
